Default Engine Splash Shield (Stupid Question?)

1995 Honda Accord V6. My engine splash shield came off. Do I need to replace it? I mean will anything bad happen if I leave it off? I know on some cars, they keep water out of the air intake system.

If you have an intake system I would probably keep it on there, that and it helps keep dirt and what not out of the engine bay NTM slight scrapes will be prevented as well.

Go to a junkyard and snag one there for cheap.

Easier to get one from the dealer. V6 cars are non-existent in Tulsa junk yards. I don't have an aftermarket air intake system.

Why pay full price for a splash shield from the dealer when you can get one for cheap from the junkyard?

It looks like (per http://www.slhonda.com) that the part number is 74111-sv7-a00 is the same for 2dr ex and 4dr v6 etc...it ranges from 21 bucks to 36. Sounds like it would be cheaper and less of a hassle to order it new .

Check out http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or http://www.slhonda.com , both are great and have oem parts NTM should be cheaper than the dealer, just have to wait for it to arrive.

Thanks. By the time you pay shipping, it is easier to go to the dealer. They quoted me $40 anyway.

One thing that no one has mentioned yet is the importance to engine cooling the lower splash/compartment shield has. It has a direct effect in insuring that cooling air is directed thru the radiator by not allowing the high(er) pressure air trapped under the car blocking airflow out of the engine compantment.
If it served no useful purpose, I would think Honda would have been the first to omit it, thus saving the thirty bucks it costs them, per car.
