Using a bolt to close off egt port. Will it crack the manifold?
I was wondering if it's safe to use a bolt in place of an egt probe to close off the port. I have a manifold that was drilled and tapped for an egt gauge but I don't plan to run one.
If I put a bolt in place of that, will to manifold be more prone to cracking because the bolt and the manifold will expand at different rates? This is on a drag mani.

i used a 1/8 brass plug to close up the hole on my last manifold. it didnt crack or leak on me

Where can I buy these plugs? Would homedepot have them?</TD></TR></TABLE>
there or an ace hardware

Usual thread type is 1/8 NPT for an EGT gauge. They should have brass plugs at Home Depot. Ace Hardware sometimes has steel plugs which would be better.

Why do you say that steel would be better? I was thinking that brass would be better because it's a softer metal and it won't put alot of pressure on the surrounding manifold surface when the plug expands do to the heat. I also heard that brass is self sealing.
