Which One?
I know this is a Prelude forum, but i would like to know which one would be the better deal in the long run. I plan on putting alot of money into whichever one i get to take down my dad's 96 vette. Opinions please
1999 Honda Prelude Type SH w/ 70k for $9,000
or
1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX w/ 105k for $7,990

the gsx has turbo?
well either way vettes aren't something easily raced against man, not in my opinion at least. get the prelude if you want a sporty good lookin ride with decent power. i'm going to assume the gsx is faster because i drove one and it felt quick after the turbo lag

If you want to make a drag car, prolly the GSX, although it'll prolly break down a lot, and the 2nd gen DSM's aren't as great of track cars as the 1st gen's. If you want to make a car that'll beat a vette, you're better off either getting some type of hatch or a 1g DSM (90-early 92 for the 6bolt).
It'll be a lot easier if you don't expect a clean ride that makes a great daily as well as an awesome track car.

yea if you want to drag a vette get the GSX, AWD will help your launch but you will still need alot of money to beat a vette.
if you want something reliable the prelude is good from my experience, but i can't say much for a GSX because I don't have one or know anyone that does. Maybe Paul Walker could provide some feedback

AWD DSM with a stroker will give you the torque to beat a vette but a complete setup will set you back a good amount.
Easiest way to beat your dad's vette, LS1 car on gas.

If your choice is only between those two, go with the Eclipse. Ive read of some 4G63 power plants making upwards of 372hp and 391 lb-ft of torque, with a 2.2 sec 0-60 and a 13.5 quarter mile time. That's on stock internals, save some 8.5:1 pistons. Pick up the September issue of Sport Compact Car, its on the cover.

Get the GSX, put a big 16g on it, upgrade the intercooler, add a boost controller, AFC, exhaust, intake, BOV, and hold on...

u are basing your entire decision on what car you buy on if you can beat your dads vette or not ???
damn you ARE spoiled...
anyhow, if you want a prelude to beat a vette you are better off going with a 4th gen vtec... same engine but are simply lighter so it will give you an edge of the 5th gen in the long run.
I beat a mean sounding vette one time in my 4th gen. All i can say is his vette was a either a piece of **** or he was a piece of **** driver. it was like a late 80's to early 90's vette ??? i dont know much about them.... just that the new vettes give me a hard-on

yep, not all vettes are fast
. The gsx will be faster, but with 105K miles, it'll be a maintenance monster. The lude won't be as fast, but you won't have to spend every weekend fixing it either.
