Ala. Region SCCA Track Day (PDE) Sept. 25th $140
The Ala. Region SCCA is putting on a Performance Driving Experience at Talladega Gran Prix Raceway http://www.tgprace.com on Sept. 25th. There is a timed Solo (autocross) event the day before. The entry fee is $140 for Sunday and entries are limited. Entrants typically get three 25 minute sessions. There will both in-car and in-classroom instruction. TGPR is a fun 1.3 mile track with lots of runoff and not a lot to hit. Entry forms and rules should be up by Sept. 3rd. at http://www.alscca.org If you have any questions please contact me at re@alscca.org

It's good to see the "PDE" events spreading more and more thru the SCCA. The price seems right, although I typically like four sessions.
I know it's different regions and all, but the SCCA PDE event I spectated at up here seemed very well organized.

Thanks Markus. I cram as much track time in as we can. Sometimes there is a "bonus" round. This is our third year. I think we were the first in SEDIV to put one on. Since I was doing NASA, BMWCCA, and others I thought it was a shame if we did not "get on the bandwagon" with the new program.
And Talladega is a great little track for learning. Its certainly not a world class facility like a Road Atlanta or Lime Rock, but it is very challenging and throws a bunch of different things at you.
During a lap you'll get...
3/4 of a skidpad
A decreasing radius left hander (I hate this turn)
A banked 180 right hander
A super fast banked sweeper (I love this turn, its a flatfooter in the Civic)
And some esses
All this in about 70 seconds in a typical IT/Street Prepared type of vehicle. It keeps you busy. Lots of runoff and not much to hit except the pit wall (and of course people occassionally hit it).

Some trees to hit as well.

Lime Rock is "little" too. It isn't Road Atlanta but then it isn't as expensive either. I enjoy driving there several times a year. To hit trees you have to try really hard to screw up. Only have seen that once and that was with wet grass, a supercharged BMW 318Ti and the driver tried to "save" the car way too long instead of just going "both feet in" which would probably prevented the accident. That car went a long way before it hit anything. A lot of club racers rent that track during the year to test n tune their cars. It is a good track to do your set ups.

Hmmm, what's the entry deadline, maybe I can scrounge up for this.
Oh, and will there be instructors available for tag-a-long laps?
