Default On-Car Ball Joint Press, Special tool that allows ball joint swap

I'm not talking about the ball joint tool that pops the ball joint from the lower a-arm. I've got one of those and a fine one at that. (Hond Tool Number 07MAC-SL00200).

What I seek is the tool that allows pressing of the lower ball joint out of the knuckle and then pressing of it back into the knuckle while it's still on the car.

I know that there are ball joint tools that allow you to press the ball joint out of and into the knuckle using a big vice after the knuckle has been removed but I want the one that does it while the knuckle is still installed.

you use the ball joint press tool available from autozone. its a glorified C clamp.

but you cannot do it while the knuckle is still in the car. the axle and axle ring is in the way. why would you want to anyway? just loosen the axle nut and upper balljoint and tie rod and calipers to remove the knuckle completely. its not that a big of a deal.

be careful about using the sleeves from the balljoint tool kit. i found them to be JUST a bit short, so that the balljoint bottoms out when almost fully pressed. it ends up crushing the balljoint tip, messing up the threads.

sorry to butt-in on someone else's thread but i just fucked up the threads on my balljoint yesterday. im really curious about the ball joint press tool that you're talking about. you say its something like a "c" clamp....so when you remove the ball joint do you just put the bottom part of the clamp on the threaded part of the joint and the top clamp on the lip of the hub where the snap ring is and tighten to push it out?? and switch it around to put it back in? thanks in advance!!!

i just hammered the old balljoint out.

then you use the sleeves to push the new balljoint in. it should be obvious.

just go to autozone, ask for the balljoint press.
