Default Transmission Problems

Okay, I have searched for this and can't find anything about it.
Here is my problem. I have a 2001 Accord, 4cyl, Auto, 123000 miles. When driving, the transmission will downshift when I slow down. It's like I'm downshifting an automatic....even though I'm not.

Ex: When driving at 50Mph braking to 40Mph, the tranny will downshift into a lower gear. Also, when slowing to a stop, you can see the RPMs go up at each gear as the car slows.
It's like the car doesn't coast when you let off the gas...it just stays in the gear. It's fine during takeoff, just not when driving.

Anyone else had this problem? Know what to do?

That is what it is supposed to do. If the car did not downshift and instead stayed in 4th gear it would stall when it came to a stop.

I know that it is supposed to downshift. Most automatics that I have driven sort of go into Neutral when you take your foot off of the petal. And when you brake, you can't feel the gears downshifting. I know that this is not normal.

oh so its like Braking with the engine? So its downshifting when it shouldn't?

When you downshift an auto (manually) you will feel the engine slow you down, I think that's whats going on, Yes?

How long have you had the car (original Tranny), When is the last time you had the ATF flushed. No CEl on the cluster?

I wouldn't drive it like that you need to get it to a dealership. I would bet your tranny is going out its pretty Common.

I have a warranty on the engine and the transmission. I think I'm just going to take it in and let them fix it for free.

Thanks.

If your auto is going into nutral when you let off of the gas something is wrong.

i don't know which car you are talking about but hondas donot go into neutral when coming to stop , they will drop to 1st gear ,,if u take ur foot off the brake it will start to roll , if u were in neutral that would not happen assuming you are not sitting on a downhill ..

ok. That is not what I was saying. You know how when your driving, when you let off the gas, the RPMs drop. It's not neutral but it must be in a super low gear. My car does not do that. And yes, I know that when you are at a stop, your car is in first gear. I'm just saying that my car does not seem to have that 'coast' to it when you let off the gas. It just stays in the same gear until the RPMs get high enough for it to shift. and when the RPMs get too low, it downshifts. But it downshifts suddenly instead of me not being able to feel it, like most cars do.
