Default b18a turbo....b18a tranny or b16a tranny better?

i plan on turbocharging a 90 b18a with the stock ls cable tranny, would i benefit from a b16a cable tranny because of its quicker gearing or is that only better for all motor?

also will the ls cable tranny still fit if i swapped out the b18a block for a b20b block?

yes the ls tranny will fit on a crv block
u want the ls tranny for turbo...the shorter geared tranny will actually work against you since the shorter gears dont allow you to spool as long
GSR CAMS!!!

good stuff! i actually have crane stage 2 cams i bought a while back, i guess i'll put those in with some aem cam gears and a new timing belt. will crane stage 2 cams for the b18a go good with the turbo or will they have too much duration or overlap?

gah here comes a debate.

i'll start

the only time longer gears are better are for traction and top speed. gears mutliply troque gahhh this'll go on all night won't it

or just get best of both worlds for boost GSR with LSD

well the b16 tranny IMO is great for any application FI or N/A because but you will constantly be in high RPM's. The LS is good if you're going to be doing a whole lot of highway driving and not too much racing. but if you have the choice of the b16 or LS tranny, you might as well just get the b16 tranny

Exactly what Ace$nyper said, acceleration is acceleration in a transmission, no matter the application behind it, short gears will be faster than long. If you want more info, do a search because we have run up and down this topic of turbos, short and long gears a lot.

But now a B16 revs to what 8000rpms while and LS redline is 6500. Now with the B16 tranny on the LS turning 6500 rpms your top speed would be like 90-100, right?? 1/4 mile speeds with any turbo LS should be over that, so I vote for the LS tranny, since you cant turn high rpms

yeah but if you are aiming for 111mph trap speed then a nice shift into 5th and a hard pull from the turbo and shorting gearing would be good

S1 Tranny > LS. In both all motor and FI applications.
