Default Don't Ever buy from ACT!

First, pardon my french and use of words/imaturity...I'm pretty angry.

I have a 2002 Civic Si Hatchback with a k20a2 and 6speed.

My stock clutch was working fine, but slipping at higher rpms...no problems getting in gear or anything.

I bought a brand new Xtreme pressure plate and street hybrid clutch from them.

I have honda put it in. I also gave them a brand new type s flywheel.

They install it and it won't go in gear. So, honda goes back and forth with ACT, ACT (guy named Dean) says that they aren't perfect and can sometimes send out messed up products.

So, honda techs prove to me that they did all they could (with advice from Dean at ACT). They also showed me when they put the car in 1st while the car is off...then started the car...of course the wheels spin a lot since it's in gear....a lot...not like it does if you leave it in neutral. (the car is on the stand).

So then, the tech asks the guy in the car to push the clutch. They do, and it doesn't disengage. Yes, they tried fixing the master cylinder, etc. I even gave them a new slave cylinder to try.

So the tech takes a pry bar and prys the fork as far is can physically go...the clutch would still not disengage!

So obviously, something isn't right here.

5 days go by and Dean never calls back...never.

So I called today. You have to understand, I am 1300 dollars in debt right now. The install costs 650...times that by two due to the uninstall and the on going reinstall of my new EXEDY clutch.

A guy named Dan/maybe David...answers and goes through the same crap Honda went through with Dean. He even tries to say maybe it's my flywheel...I have a brand new one...no, don't think so buddy!

So then he says, that's okay, send it back, we'll inspect it and send you a new one. Why the **** would I want a new one...give me my money back for the clutch I paid for and the damn money for the install that I have to have redone due to their shitty product. Have they heard of inspecting things before sending it out? Idiots!

So obviously, I'm not send the damn thing back. Why do it? They send me one back that I try to sell? And take a big *** hit on it? **** that! I paid 425 for the damn thing and 1300 dollars for a damn clutch install.

They would not offer to help with my install fees.

Worse company I have EVER delt with. Do yourself with a favor, steer far away from ACT. Do searches on here and you'll find 90% of the owners complaining about it.

I'm putting this **** on ebay...sol for whoever buys it...I'm so ******* pissed, I don't give a **** about anyone now, but myself. :deadhorse

Thanks sucks bro, I'm sorry to hear that!

I was planning on getting a clutch/flywheel combo for my ITR.

Anyone else ever have this kinda problem with ACTs products?

Or grinding like crazy into the gears. All have tried it all...adjust master cylinders, the bulletins on the type s slave cylinder, etc...everything. go exedy!

I'm not one of those guys that tries to keep his warranty...I have a motor swap, turbo, etc. I've installed a clutch and lsd on this car before when I had the k20a3...no problems.

But in short, I got the car back today...exedy went in and it's fine! ACT sucks ACT did say word for word, they would not refund me for the labor of the clutch...they would only take it back and send another one. I already had the exedy...since I couldn't wait...needed the car asap.

yeah, I was very surprised how the people at ACT acted. I thought they were supposed to be a good company. Maybe they were a couple years ago..but now, they are just going down hill. I did all kinds of searches on google...turns out rx8, audis, 1.8t vw, etc....are having similar or other types of issues with no good thing in the end for them

Anyway, yeah, I thought of sending it back, but I know they'll just say it's fine. I looked it over, there's nothing I can see wrong with it. It's quite strange

Good! Don't you remember back in the day, when I told you to get an exedy? I believe my words were, "Even my girlfriend can use it."

Just joking. Glad to hear things are worked out.

like I said...wouldn't matter for two reason. The number one reason..I don't have it in the car...I have an exedy now.

Number 2...they pushed the fork as far as it could go and it still would not disengage.

yeah i was saying if you sent it back and it proved to be defective use the new one they send you (if they do and dont want to refund your money) and just dont go with act again after it goes out. Me personally would try to get a discount for all the hassle.

Did you buy Honda or Acura bearings, or ACT bearings?

When you ordered for your car, you ordered for an RSX Type S?

And yes, I ordered for the type s. A lot of other rsx-s owners on crsx have complaints about it also. Some even took the act kit out and swapped an exedy in or stock one in

Sounds like you had a bad install Mike IMO, did you ask the technician to reinstall it again? Just like ACT could have made that mistake of sending you the wrong product, the technician could have made a mistake installing it. Im an ACT fan, I have not use anything else for Roadracing,Dragracing and daily street driving for my EG and EP. So far I have had "0" problems.
Sucks that the dealer charged you twice but the good news is that you have your car running again.
If in fact their was something wrong with the ACT clutch, definetly get ACT to refund something back or else go back to the dealer to complain for a bad install. Unfortunately, there are people out there that do that for that extra buck OR because you are not using their products.
Good Luck

do you still have the k20a3 in your ep3? It seems the k20a2 with 6 speeds are the only ones having the problem. I too WAS an ACT fan...till this happened

I've had an ACT in my 99 civic for a few years now...it's great!!!

Wake up man, I know you're pissed but labor charges are a gamble, no one is ever going to refund you money for labor in a situation like this.

$650 for a clutch install??? I hope you got a kiss with that.

anyways...ACT makes a great product at least for 00 and older Hondas.

good luck with your problem!

Here you are trashing us on another forum. We offered to test the parts, we gave advise on possible causes, and obviously we don't make any promises until we have opportunity to see the parts. We have yet to see the parts to determine what is going on or try and make it right. For anyone who is interested in getting help on ACT products or any technical clutch quesiton, my direct email is dstarksen@advancedclutch.com.
