93 dx coupe, possible to shave 300 practically?
heres the dilemna. id appreciate some advice.
i have an 88crx si. its down to 1850 without driver. b16 with a ys1 tranny. nothing special, as i am just digging into it. figured id get it handling and looking the way it needs to before i start throwing cash at the motor. however, ive always wanted an EG coupe....well, my grandmother in law basically gave me hers when she found out. let me tell you, this thing is a 93 dx. milano red. IMMACULATE. old lady driven for only 80K. thats coffe on sunday since it was new. not a scratch, not a dent. however its an automatic.
so, i know it weighs 2319. i know i can get it fairly light but how light. im keeping carpet up front. 2 seats, dash, aftermarket steering wheel and door panels but thats it. im guessing CF hood, CF trunk lid, darkstar crossmember, light battery, cut out the spare tire compartment and weld in a pice of sheet metal, no AC no PS. no rear seat.
where would that put me? im guessing 2100 maybe lighter. also, can i use the pedal set and cable tranny from my crx? would i still need the cable/hydro conversion hasport style? anythin else crossover? can i use the entire obd0 setup or is it easy to use an obd1 ecu with the obd0 motor?
am i fighting a lost cause by trying to get a eg coupe to weigh close to that an 88 crx weighs?
if youve read this far, thank you

well it depends on what model 92-95 civic hatch your talking about cx,vx,dx,si.. as far as i know i think the VX is the lighest model.. I highly doubt you could get it weighing 1800 with driver, but 1900-2000lbs sound realistic..
Btw: if you can afford a k20a swap into a eg, by all means do it.

Well, I have a 92 Dx Hatch, which I know is lighter than the coupe, so no one post telling me that, but mine started out at 2450. With some cutting of the metal on the door panels and rear panels, a carbon hood, some Rota wheels, and me (a 115 pound girl), I have it down to 2068 with me in it. That is with full interior by the way. So, if I can drop that much off with just some basic stuff, you are not fighting a losing battle. you should be able to get it pretty light. obviously it will be more work since the coupe is way heavier than the hatch, but it is possible. Sounds like you need some encouragement, so go for it

my old roomate had a 95 dx coupe and gutted it down to 2100 w 150lb driver. he had carpet up front, corbeau seats, stock dash, cf hood, with a d16y8 and rear discs added. Pretty much the rest of the car was gutted. I don't know all the specifics but it was pretty damn light.
In theory, you could probably make it fit, but the pedal set is a little bit smaller on the CRX. You are probably better off buying a civic one from a junk yard. I bought one once to do a 5 speed on another car, and it was only about $20.
