Mobil 1 oil
OK, I just changed my oil and I used that new mobil one synthetic stuff that is garunteed for 15,000 miles. And the filter I used, a fran, is only for 7,500. Should I change the filter at 7,500 and add a little oil? Do filters actually hold up as long as they say they do? I am really interested in seeing how well this stuff holds up. I can't imagine oil lasting that long. Thanks
Synthetic will never break down. However, it will get dirty, which is where the filter comes in. I wouldnt buy that 15000 mile crap. I buy mobil 1 supersyn 10w30 and a mobil 1 filter. Then I change every 5k miles. Then you know the oil is clean as well as the filter.

what is it about them thats no good?
I've been using the kinda cheapo Mobil 1 oil filters for about 6 years with no issue.
edit: then again, i've also been using Mobil1 Syn for the last 6 years.

Thanks for the info... i guess i will go get a better filter and try and change it w/o changing the oil. There is honda filters right? would they be the best? Thanks again
Here's a link that tested a bunch of filters and explains the pros and cons of each.

Yes, ditch the Fram. Cheaply assembled with cardboard innards.
I wouldn't use Mobil 1 filters. They are very well made (made by Champion Labs in NJ) but their high-efficiency filtration media can be restrictive of oil flow.
I like Wix/NAPA gold and Baldwin/Hastings for most Honda applications. Regular Purolators are good too. I fear Pure-Ones are restrictive in the same way M1s are.
JakeIsCool, yes, synthetic oil DOES break down ... just (usually) more slowly than mass-market conventional oils. Royal Purple, even their 10W-30, breaks down faster than any oil I've ever seen.

yeah thats overkill, and alot of unnecessary pollution, 5000 miles at the least everytime

I like Wix/Napa Gold too because it looks exactly like the Honda Prelude filter that Honda discontinued! And it has a good reputation.
I also hear good things about K&N and I have one waiting to go on right now, but they're more expensive. And they don't fit a filter wrench.

Damn... thanks for all the info. Now I just need to find an advanced auto parts store around here... or any car parts store... the old oil is still sitting by my front door. I really need to get rid of that too.
