Automatic Trans?
I was curios how reliable an Accord's automatic transmissions are behind a stock motor. Given if your hard on the tranny and dont change the fluids the life will be greatly reduced. But what if the owner(s) have kept up the maintenance on it and driven it in a normal fashion?
I know that Honda has changed there trannys through the years, but I would like to hear some feedback about how they hold up.
Thank You

THE 4 CYL TRANS has great reliability. I have a 1994 LX and my tranny is at 134K and is still running like a champ. The V6 cars have a higher than usual failer rates due to design flaws in the 6th gen and 7th gen cars
I have 138k miles on my 4-cyl 98 accord. Transmission in great shape. A little clunking during downshifts on the automatic transmission, but nothning serious.
Also kinda depends on what you mean by "hard" on the tranny, some instances of being "hard" on the tranny could lead to nearly immediate failure (neutral drops, etc etc etc)...where as other things considered "hard" on the tranny like fluid changes that are inconsistant, or constant usage of the passing gear will yield much less damage if any at all.
Im really glad to see such a low failure rate so far among you guys

What I mean by "hard" is racing from stop light to stop light, trying to get the tires to chirp at every stop, etc...

Would it be asking to much to try to get 225,000-250,000 miles out of a 3rd or 4th gen trans?
Thank You

Yes. If it were a Toyota then I would say the automatic transmission would last 250k easy with routine mainanence of course. But Honda just can't solve their automatic transmission problems and that's why Toyota is better overall. Honda's are great reliable cars too but Toyata's are simply better in the long run. And this is coming from someone who has owned both for many years.

The gearing would be different maybe, but you'll have the same problem. Since the normal trannies cant handle the stock power they make, upgrading to a tranny with the same problem wont really do much. Youll have to check with an Acura dealership or something to verify what years or VIN numbers are affected by the tranny problem.
I bought my car 2 months ago, the tranny shifts almost not noticible if you get it to shift at like 3k if you shift it at like 2k it shifts stiff, I changed the fluid twice and its perfect. also I bought it to a trans shop to make sure it was ok cause I wasnt used to a car shifting that hard they said theres absolutly nothing wrong with it
and my mechanic said they just shoft like crap and didnt like honda autos
