In the past two days, I've noticed a hesitation during acceleration at around 6k rpm in 3rd gear. The car stops pulling and I hear a 'whish' or 'pffffff' sound coming from the front. I haven't yet pushed the car past that point lest I actually damage something. What could be causing this?

It starts to happen at that rpm range.
