Another B.A.R question... Searched w/o Answer
After posting in the Hybrid section and getting no replys where is my question.
i know alot has been covered already in getting BAR'd in California.... i have finally come to a problem that i have not found an answer to and need your help.
With a 99 Civic hb CX and 99 JDM type r motor to match. I know i will need a obd2b ecu but the problem is that it has the hated i guess you can say IMM. When the immoblizer is taken off, it will always have a CEL which is noted in Katman's ecu site.
Will the ref even care about this?? Since this has nothing to do with smog.... Do i need to get the IMM? OR can i just run a obd2b without the IMM and tell the ref why.
Anyone with a 99 Civic and JDM R motor have an answer for me.
TIA

CEL on = fail no matter what the reason for it is.
and that's just here in chicago, Cali is more strict.
I don't know how to get around the CEL being on with the IMM other than actually installing and using the IMM system on your car.

on a chrysler 300m, it has, get this, 3 computers. one for the body functions, one for the engine functions and one for... the cabin i think. if all three of the computers dont match the vins in each others memory, nothing will work.
the nearest i can figure is, find out what causes the immobilizer to come on and give it what it wants. there is probably something somewhere in the car that is telling the ecu it doesnt match.

true, you will fail even though its not emissions related.
there has to be a way around having the IMM throw a check engine light or why dont you just use the IMM, does it come with the engine harness or is it an ecu thing?
a little backround on the IMM would help some of us answer your questions.
but bump for a true problem

Not hard to find. Just searched "immobilizer" in the ITR forum.
Look at the second post by user Blind Fashion
Try and contact him. He seems to be the only one that I know of who claims to have defeated the constant CEL after the immobilizer is removed with some electronic components in its place.
Be sure to post your results so other can benefit from your experience.
Good Luck
