B.A.R question in california... Searched w/ no answer
i know alot has been covered already in getting BAR'd in California.... i have finally come to a problem that i have not found an answer to and need your help.
With a 99 Civic hb CX and 99 JDM type r motor to match. I know i will need a obd2b ecu but the problem is that it has the hated i guess you can say IMM. When the immoblizer is taken off, it will always have a CEL which is noted in Katman's ecu site.
Will the ref even care about this?? Since this has nothing to do with smog.... Do i need to get the IMM? OR can i just run a obd2b without the IMM and tell the ref why.
Anyone with a 99 Civic and JDM R motor have an answer for me.
TIA

the ref will care about the CEL being on, they wont even drive your car on the rollers without first seing that its running without CEL and a visual inspection first.
as far as immobolizers, i have no clue on how to deal with that. i recommend getting a JDM p73 ecu, if memory serves me correct it doesnt have immobolizer but it will not be the correct ECU for that swap(being that its not US counter part) so you might fail there.

I don't ever remember seeing the jdm 99 ITR having a immobilizer built into. I do know the 00-01 usdm integras have them though. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

That won't work because the smog ref will be looking for a operational CEL light when they start up the engine.

Your prob gonna need either :
1. An ecu that will pass visual and that is a USDM ecu. 99 ecu has immoblizer maybe you really have a 01 or 00? maybe a 98 usdm ecu with the sticker from the newer one?
2. the immoblizer from a 00 integra.

actually they can fail you for tha talso sinc the light is uspposed to come on then go off after less than 6 secodns to indicate the self test was completed.
