Can I make my automatic integra fast without replacing transmission
1991 Integra LS Automatic. Can I make it fast without converting it to a manual transmission. Manual transmission seems complicated. I mean can I get my ECU reprogrammed to allow higher rps then 3000 so it revs high and holds the rpm high. Also, it's a non-vtec. So you guys are the gurus, tell me what all can I do to keep it reliable and faster than stock. Don;t need a race car, but a fast daily driver. I know about LS/VTEC but not sure if I wanna do it, I don;t know how reliable it will be. I've heard it starts buring oil because with time cylinder walls become oval and oil seeps down and burns.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, thank you guys!!!

Don't even bother trying to race in an automatic unless you got all the money in the world, usually the best showcars are automatic. I have a co-worker that thinks his **** is so fast and it's an civic ex, automatic and he tells me he waxes turbo-charged hondas. don't even bother or you will get joked. .
Honestly it would be expensive as hell and pointless. My answer is "No", but theoretically you can make anything fast with a wad of cash. But seriously dont waste your time.Sell your car and get a manual or dont try to mod it.

No they don't. Boosted autos = slower than stock manual counterparts. (assuming stock boost levels).
If you want to mod your car, and by your post, I see that you do, consider a 5-speed swap as part of your modifications. I did mine, and there are many HT members here that did the same. There are many threads here that can help you through it, plus you can always have someone else/shop do it.
Honestly, as most would agree, I would not modify an automatic for performance.

I drive an automatic integra. its pretty quick, but not a race car. i've got cold air intake, headers, straightpipe, catback, ngk wires, chipped ecu. i'm going to be installing crower cams and camgears.. i will also be doing some more mods 2 it as well. i'm in the same boat as u, i dont want to go through the trouble of doing a full manual conversion.my next car will be manual. with an auto tranny, i wouldnt drag race or anything, but its nice 2 have the mods when your on a nice OPEN highway, and you wanna play with someone or something. Also, do not boost an auto tranny. honda transmissions can not handle turbos and will fail. just stick with basic bolt-ons and such.
and lastly.. i dont think you can do an LS/vtec with an auto tranny.. but idk

yes the trannys can handle boost and yes you can do a ls/vtec with a auto
my friend had a auto ls turbo in his civic hatch and he ran 8.2 in the 1/8 mile we put a 5 speed in and he couldnt get it under 8.4

My friend did a auto to manual swap on his integra. It cost him 2200 with a act clutch. Thats for the tranny, the pedals, and the interior pieces and labor.
i've heard in most cases that most automatic honda transmissions usually fail after just a short time. i was intrested in boosting my teg, and alot of HT members adviced me not 2 with the auto tranny.
all you need is a transmission 3-4 hundred.. and a good clutch, and some mounts..a nd a new ecu for like 20 -50 dollars.. and bam u got 5 speed.. really isn't as hard as you would think

You're a genius.
You're a genius.
ok so based on what you guys suggest, manual swap is really gonna be worth it. Now from what I have read, I think what I need for this swap is:
1. A Honda/Acura Integra Manual Transmission with clutch
2. Shift box with shift link cable
3. Clutch pedal with a link to the tranny
4. Chipped Ecu (where do you get it chipped or can you just replace it with a ecu from a manual teg?)
5. May be an upper tranny mount
How accurate is this and have you guys actually done a swap like this. If yes I would really appreciate if you could shed some light on it.

I gotta thank you Ak for asking a question I was pretty much too embarassed to ask myself. I love my teg, but sadly it is auto. I think it will just have to hold me over till I can afford to buy a GS-R or at least a Manual RS/LS/GS. I am however planning on throwing a few mods into this teg, like suspension and tires, just to make driving even funner then it already is. Thanks for answering his and my question.

i know a guy running low 13's on an auto 98 2 door accord.
basically instead of wasting money on changing it to a stick, he used to to build up his tranny and guess what, its pretty quick.
will smoke most cars on the street.
so watch out.
u dont want to loose to an auto. especially an accord.
haha

It truly depends on what you mean by "fast". Do you mean "fast" as in a straight line? Or do you mean "fast" as in able to take some turns and have fun with it. First, lets get the stupid spiel outta the way.....I personally would not recommend going "fast" in the streets. The pavement is not set up for any type of ultra "spirited" driving especially in certain weather conditions. Other than that, you're just taking a huge risk when doing so.
*ahem* now that the b*llsh*t speech is outta the way.....you can actually make it "fastER" while still keeping your auto tranny. I found a kit somewhere for around $1500 ( maybe it was on sale...I forgot ) that allows you to do a manual valve body job to it and it comes with a high stall converter. That way...it can handle more of the power you're probably wantin to put out of the motor itself. But ummm....do you really wanna spend that much money on just your tranny? And, if you can't do it yourself, you know someone who can? If so...GO FOR IT!
If not...then...why not think about swapping over to a 5 speed? Its easier to repair a manual tranny than it is an automatic tranny.....trust me on this one......

Explain the "City" then. ( For all you OG's...don't say what it is
I wanna see if he knows
)
Honda transmissions CAN HANDLE TURBOS. Its been proven time and time again that it can. What I think you meant was either one of 2 things. Its either honda AUTOMATIC transmissions can not handle MUCH boost on turbo applications ......or......
honda manual tranmissions can not handle INSANE amounts of boost on turbo applications. From what I've seen, worked on, and even had the opportunity to sit in....honda transmissions handle just fine. Maybe most spend time and money replacing clutches....though part of the tranny...the rest of it holds up well. Tuning is a huge part in it. Also....whether or not you know how to "drive" your car plays into it as well.

yea don't even bother making it fast with your automatic tranny...if you love your car so much do a manual swap..or you can just sell your current car, buy a manual car and make it fast..
when i said honda trannys, i was reffering to automatic transmissions(jus to clear that up) i have heard a lot of stories of people blowing thier transmissions after just a short time, b/c of the boost.
