Pushing real hard on Shifter... Cause Bad Transmission or what? PICS
If you just real hard on your shifter, say you really bare down on it with all your body weight pushing it forward (towards stereo)... what will happen?
Will the stock shifter bend forward?
Will it hurt the transmission in anyway?
i've been under the car and ripped apart the arm rest trying to figure out how to "adjust" the shifter arm... havent figured anything out yet.
Ideas on how to more the arm forward or to the right a little bit?
I was thinking that if i really put pressure on the arm that it would start to bend?
i have a "shifter conversion" kit, it's made out of cast iron i believe (heavy as hell to) and it makes the reqtangular shifter Round (looks like an Audi).
With all my research i've found out that my shifter seems to be bent or something because in 2nd gear it's very far Down and to the Left (drivers side)...
the shifter arm is dead center when it is in Reverse. (which it should look to be off to the right passenger side)
anyway, the arm smacks into this new "kit" whenever i'm in 2nd

if it's not lining up, then it sounds like either the shifter or the shift linkage (rod from shifter to tranny) is bent.
Shifters are cheap (get a short shift while you're at it - or hit me up, I've got one used for cheap).
You might also consider purchasing a new shift linkage rod - over time they apparently stretch (which could be your problem), and are susceptible to damage if you hit something (although it would take out your exhaust first).
If these don't fix your problem, it's time to look deeper into the tranny...

I think he is saying he wants it to be off center. More forward or more to the right.
My suggestion would be to get a straight shifter (B&M) this will move the shifter forward. Not much i could suggest for left to right adustment

It already IS off center, in Neutral the shifter is slanted down and to the left slightly.
I want to to be Centered in Neutral.

if i take that rubber thing in teh 2nd pic and make the hole larger on the right, it would move the shifter assembly more towards the center... but what could i put on the side to "fill in" the hole so id dosent move back?
replace shifter/ bushings if that dosnt do it it could be a wide variety of thinks such as linkage/shift fork etc- start with the small things and work your way up

Everything should fit fine - if you change the bushing, you're not fixing the problem, that's why I wouldn't recommend doing that.
If you really don't want to buy a replacement part to fix the problem, some GE Silicone II from Home Depot, once cured, would securely fill in the hole.
