How do I hook up my cigg lighter, 88 Hatch Std?
A few months ago, I purchased a complete center console for my 88 Hatch Std from an 89 4dr EX and it came with a lighter with wire attachment. As many of you know, the Std didn't come with ANYTHING in the way of comfort other than a bucket to sit on while you drive unless you gave the dealer your first born child.
This lighter that I acquired has sat in my ride looking very nice but being non functional for several months now. I recently purchased a new lower console part to complete my interior setup, and I would love to have the lighter functional so I can charge my phone while I drive. It has the wiring coming off the socket with the plug, but I have no clue where to plug it in at. Does anybody know where this plug might be hiding, or do I have to cut and make my own connections?
Some items to keep in mind:
1. I do not mind getting creative with my car if I know the result will be better than what I started with
2. I have searched this topic, so please do not tell me that I need to search for the answer
3. I do not know anything about mobile electrical systems let alone how to modify them, so if you have a suggestion on how to "cut up" the wiring, please make it as simple and descriptive as possible
Thanks for looking and helping out!

it has4 wires blk (ground ) any METAL bolt will work - white/grn any power source (radio igniton whatever) red/blk - red thease are for the lights n the ashtray and the light ring around the lighter. (this is EX only
) u can split off from your climate control lights for this.

Sorry for the incorrect designation, I am just recalling what I was advised.
Forgive me for seeming ignorant (when it comes to wiring I am very ignorant, hence my plea for help), but it seems that you are telling me to disregard the wiring and clip already attached to the lighter element and extend these to "jimmy-rig" it to the metal body for ground and power? That doesn't seem very safe for me to be doing, as I am sure I will fry my *** when I reconnect the battery
.
Do you have the location on the fuse panel that I can connect it to or should I just resign myself to have a professional electrician do this for me?

well... I haven't looked at it recently. it's in the car, and I am at work. I take phone calls for a living, so I can't really go outside and take my console apart to look until I go home tonight. The lighter unit itself has the wiring attached to the female end of the plug, but I can't find the male end anywhere under the dash or behind the radio/climate control area. What would that plug be connected to on the fuse panel?
Your lighter assembly will have a male plug that will plug into the female plug connected to the rear of the ashtray and viola! - lighter. I know this will work because I put in a lighted lighter from an Si and not only does the lighter work, but the lights as well. All the wiring is the same between trim levels.
That is what I thought, but where is the male end??????
Is it bunched with the climate control stuff or tied in someplace else? I have looked for it, but I couldn't see it.

There is a hole in the rear of the ashtray metal bracket. In that hole the plastic female plug will be clipped. I had to pull the female out of that hole to make it reach the extra 1" to the male plug.
There is nothing attached to the metal ashtray frame other than the ashtray itself (and that is filly removable without any clips). There is no light, there is no light ring around the outlet. The only thing above it when installed is the radio wiring, above that the climate control wires. There is NOTHING there to plug it in to.
