d16z6 swap worth it?
my motor has 200K on it, and i am planning to put the turbo kit soon. someone suggested that i do swap because something very small can messed up the whole engine during rebuild. but some say rebuild the engine instead of doing swap. i am planning to get about 200 to 230whp, and curious whether doing a swap is worth it or not. thanks.
I'd say yes, u can find d16z6s pretty cheap with WAY less than 200k on them, and the money ud spend on rebuilding ur old engine could go into that. Plus, with good tuning, a stock d16z6 can make between 200-230whp no prob. I think beerbongskickass makes around 230 whp on a stock d16z6 with uberdata and dsm injectors, i think. Check out turbod16.com . Great site! Good luck.
thanks. i actually talked to beerbongskickass and he gave me the specs of what he is running and etc. but isn't rebuild motor more reliable in a way that it can take a bit more punishment?
It's worth it you can get one for like 80 bucks anywhere usa. Back in the day i had a hatch 92dx and it had that slow d series and i swapped it for the z6 and wow what a difference. 200k is pushing it imo.
Built with forged internals, etc. would make it more reliable, but I'd still rather spend some extra money building a z6 then throwing a whole bunch of money at a 200k mile motor. Not saying it cant be done though. I just think it'd be a lil less weight on ur conscience knowing u had a solid powerplant.

if you are going to do any sort of rebuild, do it with forged internals the first time. if you are swapping, 230whp is real close to what i would push on a z6, and i think i would at a minimum upgrade to aftermarket headstuds.
not to be a dick as some might take it, but an ls motor can take the 230whp on a totally stock block for probably longer than you will own the car. ive been doing it on a 200k mile motor for like 8k miles already
