the mechanics lied to me. it was all a scam.

oh yeah..

before i started the trip, i got a mobile 1 syn. oil change, replaced the timing and alternator belt and the water pump. sigh...

I'm no expert, but I might sound like the headgasket could be waisted. The car would use up all the coolant. I don't know about the oil. Ii could have gone into the water cooling passages, but that unlikely. Does the engine have a history of burning oil?

Buy a compression tester from a local auto store for like $50. That will tell you if you have internal problems, like a thrown rod. Also, the compression will tell you if you have a blow head gasket. This is what I'd do if I were you. There are many website that can explain how to run a compression test and how to analyze the results.
