yes it's safe ... when taking the lines off the compressure .. do it slowly so the freon drains slowly & doesn't spray all in your face & ****

When you do it, make sure you get the white bypass tube to it is fairly cheap and that way you don't have to gut the evap box under the dash. That is was I did and then get the little block off grommet so water doesn't get into your car.

I also agree with him. Mine came out cause half of it was already missing and the other half was beyond repair.

give a hoot! don't pollute! R-12 is a nasty pollutant

intentionally letting freon out into the atmosphere is like dumping used oil onto the ground. one should, if at all possible, have the freon evacuated by a shop that has reclaiming equipment.

if you are selling the system, cap all hoses, the comp, condenser, and evaporator so contamination by air will be minimized. the old dryer/reservoir should be replaced by the new owner.

R12 isn't any worse for the environment than R134a is. DuPont started all that because they hold the patent on R134a, and would sort of like to sell a lot of it.

R12 is a poison, however, so your best bet is not to be anywhere near it while it's in the atmosphere. Breathing enough of it or getting enough on your skin can kill you. Just FYI...
