Default Hatch overheated in traffic yesterday, possible damages?

i was drivin in bumper to bumper traffic on the freeway and my car has a manuel swithc to turn the fan on but for some reason my dumbass forgot to. Alll of a sudden i notice a little bit of smoke coming from the hood and i look at the temp and its at the max so i turn on the fan and blast the heat. Few seconds later the temp went back down to normal and i drove home. Didnt notice anything wrong in the engine bay. Do i need to be worried about a warped head or blown head gasket?

lets just say that smoke under your hood is *never* a good thing. don't panic just yet, though. just keep a close eye on your oil and coolant levels to make sure you aren't suddenly burning a ton, and watch for signs of smoke from your exhaust. if your fluids don't drop noticeably, then I wouldn't sweat it. why don't you just replace the fan relay so it turns itself on?

no damage to the head or gasket. I wonder where the smoke was coming from? Thermostat is going to be wired for the fan to turn on by itself.

the coolant boiling over. no worrys. you should be fine. just wire up the fan to come on when the ignition is on so you dont have it happen again
