tapping/rattling sound coming from tranny?
i noticed this past week that my tranny has been making some odd sounds. when it sits at idle i notice like an intermittent tapping or rattling sound coming from inside the transmission, and then when i accelerate, it sounds like a shaking/vibration sound. also i noticed when i disengage the clutch its a little sticky, barely noticeable though... i havent noticed anything else, goes into gear good, clutch doesnt slip... any ideas on what this could be? bad clutch, bad tranny? thanks.
so i mean is it driveable for the next week till i can get it fixed? or is it gonna go and reek havoc on my whole tranny/clutch?
im starting to think its gear lash now... anyone else agree? its intermittent now, sometimes it'll be gone, sometimes it'll be real loud. also, everytime i start the car up it doesnt make the sound, its just after driving it around for a while.
i wish it was that easy, this thing is my daily driver and my ONLY car, so if it blows, a new tranny will go in and ill take a look at this one and rebuild it if possible. time to look for another gsr/b16 hydro tranny just in case....

Im going to bet good money, that the Pressure Plate is backing out off the flywheel and that rattling and spining inside your tranny is the PP bolts spining around inside the bell housing, remove your tranny ASAP or your going to put a hole in your block...(it happened to me)
damn, never woulda thought of that. the clutch engages fine tho, and the rattling stops as soon as i push the clutch in. i had my engine builder check out the noise today and he said hes almost certain its gear lash, but were gonna take a look tomorrow.
If its making a rattling noise and you push the clutch in and it goes away it is most likely the mainshaft bearings in the transmission. usually the bottom one which sees all the load is the first to go.....
both bearings will run you about 80$ and are easy to change...if you leave it like that and they come apart say goodbye to your tranny.
What is happening is even when the cars in neutral the transmission is still spinning and the bearing is still seeing load. when you push in the clutch you are seperating the motor from the transmission and the tranny will stop spinning
when it stops theres no load on the bearing and the noise will go away
