Default Tire choices...

Im wondering if I can get some opinions here.
I have a 2000 CX Hatch with an ITR brake/20lug conversion and have been running the stock ITR rim on factory Bridgestone RE010's and it's about time to replace them and I'm kind of stuck.
Id like to run a 205/5015 and need opinions on good tires considering the following: only one set for street AND auto cross and must be able to withstand Seattle area rain (no snow though). I am looking for the best compromise: performace, streetability, value. I expcet to replace tires every 12-15000 miles.
Good suggestions from friends include the AO32R, Falken Azenias (sp?), and I'll toss the Bridgestone S-03 (as the S2000 has S-02's and I am very happy with them (and after looking at tirerack, S03's shipped to me are 530ish)

Thanks in advance,
Demian

Edited because its late, drove 2.5 hours to watch 20 cars dyno while staning in rain off and on while watching head get torn of a B16...

I assume you are running an R coumpound class in autocrossing like SM if you have the brake conversion. Since you are in Seatle with the rain...forget the S-03's they are horrible in the rain you would be better off with the S0-2's. Same goes for hte Falkens...any standing water and they prone to hydroplane. And my guess is that you get a lot of standing water. I have been told that the A032R are good wet tire. They would also give you more more preformance in the dry since they are an R compound tire. My concern with them though is that they may not last 12,000-15,000 miles. They are also very noisy on driving on the road.

I would suggest you look at the So-2's or the Kuhmo 712's.

My mistake, yes you are right...been awile since I looked at the them I meant that you should stay away from the SO-2 and go with the SO-3's.

Thanks for the correction.

If you want them to last 12-15K then forget about the Azenis and A032Rs. Also neither are a good street rain tire. The RE-010 has better grip than the S-03 but will not last as long. I just got a set of S-03s for my ITR and they are a better street tire than the 010 but not as good an autocross tire.

Regards,
Alan

Looks like im just going to pony up for an extra set of rims/tires for autox.
Looks like S03's for the street (thanks for the price heads up Steve C), and a rim tire combo (perhaps the Falkens on a light set of 15's) for autox.

Thanks folks,
Demian

Kumho Ecsta 712s.

You can get a set of 205/50/15s for around $300 out the door.

Demian, if you decide to go this route and have a dedicated set of autocross tires and wheels, why get the Falkens? It's a street tire (a good street tire, but still a street tire), not a race tire. Get race tires if you're getting a set to race on. These tire threads are so interesting since there are always different opinions.

Here's mine, like it or not;
The A032R is about the best dual purpose tire going which will almost always be faster than street compounds at Solo-II.

If you do get a Autocross only set I highly recommend a smaller rim size if you can. I just switched from 15 to 13 inch rims and it's like night and day. Then you can get some cheapo (price not quality) Kumho 712s for the street and not worry about hydroplaning and should there be a down pout at a autoX event, leave the 712s on. If you're going to be competitive in SM you will need R tires.

I tried R tires for the first time at my last event and all I got to say is OMG

he has the Type R brakes...correct me if I am wrong, The 13" will not fit over these brakes.

As for Geratols fist time on R compounds...hehehe, wait until you try a set of Hoosiers. You will have the same reaction.

As for a seperate set fo wheels and tires...this is the best. It is really hard to have anything that is not a serious comprimise one way or another.
