Default should i buy this type r?

I ahve been searching for some time now, and i found one i can afford, it is a 1997, clean title, 93k miles, some body damage, (its got a black rear bumper cover, and the front bumper cover looks to be scratched up a little) he is asking 12k obo, they really wnat to sell it, one thing that i did notice was that the arm rest plaque said "00-302", shouldnt this be "97-XXX"? any imput would be great, ill try and up load the pictures too.

Yes, the badge is indeed incorrect.

I personally would rather wait and pay more for something better out of the box.

I would stay away from it, and just wait until something better comes along. The badge, the damage, and the fact the seller really wants to get rid of it are big warning signs.

No, they are 94-97.

The car is also noticably lowered. You might want to try to look at the undercarriage to see if there is any damage.

if its a 97, and the first 2 digits on the badge are 00... that means it is miss matched.

Actually you're all wrong, the 97s had 00xxx, the others are xx-xxx like 00-1454, or 01-0745.

Looks a little beat up, but if it is a clean title, its a fair price.

BTW my badge is 00110

I personally wouldn't pay $12,000 for it, judging by the photographs and the information you've provided.

that may be, and the car may be ragged..... but the term blue book doesn't really exist for the R.

Yea I remember trying to see what blue book value was for an R I was looking at and it said "No Value Available: At this time Kelley Blue Book does not have the necessary data to assess this vehicle."

This very well may be so and I agree with this statement to a degree, but if you want to own the first year type-r then here is the chance. Who cares if it's been lowered? The stock suspension can be purchased for peanuts and the rear bumper can obviously be painted as well. I'm pretty excited it has the OEM front lip which we all know, are hard as hell to find for the 97'.

Personally, I would take the advice of everyone else and offer the blue book price.

Don't forget: Money talks, and even if you think this guy wouldn't bend on such a lower price than what he's asking, when you make your offer, make sure he gets an actual physical glimps of the 9K in your hands. If you think the deal may go higher, keep some spare hundreds in other pockets. This has always worked for me.

If your willing to own some of Type-R history, well then you and the seller will meet a middle ground where your both happy. I don't feel that 'middle' price being too much higher than 9K though.

Just my .02. Good luck man.

Wow! Just about the same price as a VIS carbon lip, cheaper than a spoon lip.

Does it come painted, Mr. Smarty Pants?
