Newb here got a question about my R...??
I am doing a rebuild on my 98 Spec R engine here shortly and I have already purchased a full buddyclub stage IV head package and am looking for pistons now. I was leaning towards some Wiseco 82mm 12.0:1 compression, can I run those on pump gas pretty well with no detonation with a good tune? All info greatly appreciated. Thanks.

With a good tune you should be fine. I ran 11.5:1 on my old b16a2 untuned on 91 octane and it ran fine. It ran a little rich but it never had detonation.

Pinging comes from lower octane fuel. Detonation is different.
I don't think you will need to run race gas but you will probably need a stand alone EMS for tuning. Tuning will be critical for the setup. What other mods do you have?

i'm planning on doing the same cam's, do i need to uprate fuel pump & injectors and what ecu are you going to run as there does'nt seem to be a buddy club one available at the moment, if theres any info you can give me it would be much appreciated
Jon,
Here's a tip for you. When you start a topic, it helps to make the title specific, so people know what it's about when they're looking at the list of titles, and can decide whether or not to open it based on what it's about.
For example, EVERY topic here has a question about an ITR. So "Newb here got a question about my R...??" doesn't really say anything about your topic. But if your title said "Gas and Pistons for Buddyclub Head Package", people would know exactly what your question is about. Those who can answer will be more likely to open the topic and do so, while those who can't, will know enough to skip over it.
Thanks, and good luck with your rebuild.
