oil pressure problems
Im having oil pressure problems! my oil pressuire goes from normal to when the motor has been running for about 10 min to the oil light coming on and then when the rpms come up it goes out.... this happens for a little wile then it comes back on... im wondering if my pressure switch is out or if the oil pump is bad. im thinking its the pressure switch isant ment for the computer cuse i have an integra computer (0bd1) with and 0bd1 D16z6 engine. my guess is that the computer is looking for more oil pressure then the engine is putting out.... but if i turn off the car and a second later restart it the oil light stays out for a wile but eventualy starts the same thing again..... any thoughts???
When was last oil change? How many miles ago?
The oil you have in the engine may be old and has lost viscosity when hot.
Try higher viscosity index oil, or oil treatment, like STP.
How many miles on the engine since new? or overhaul?
The oil pump in the engine is not efficient, too much gaps, to pump hot oil.

I think oil pressure requirement is about the same on all engine regardless of make and model. I don't think miss match engine and computer is the cause of malfunction here. But then I can be wrong. (lots of times , , , )
I had old air cooled VW a long time ago. This engine did the same thing you are saying, except it didn't have computer on board. I put in STP and there was no more oil warning light.

The engine has 130K and the oil was changed about 4-500 miles ago and i have used Lucas oil treatment. so maybe it is the oil pump. i think im going to put an oil pressure guage on it and see what is happening with the oil pressure seeing that what is happening stops for a wile when i turn off the car and quickly restart it it goes away that the oil pressure switch may just be malfunctining.
There is residual oil pressure still remain in the system a short time, I think. But hten your pressure switch may be sticking, too. Yes, try separate oil pressure gauge in the system to see what is happening. This will be the first step to troubleshoot the system.
when you shut the car off there is no residual oil pressure it drops the second the car turns off, get a mechanical oil pressure guage and look at that you shouldnt worry about the light as long as the guage is right
put the guage in and the pressure drops to 0 after a wile and then rises with rpms.... not good so im pretty sure the oil pump is bad. im going to get one today... thanks for the input
What are the readings on the pressure gauge at what rpm?
I don't remember the numbers off of my head now, but if you have minimum of 20-25psi at idle and up to 60-70psi at cruise, you should be O.K.
Changing oil pump is not easy is it?

On the other Civic forum, there was something negative about Lucas oil treatment. Someone had a link to this site, and a guy at this site tested LUcas oil treatment in oil in test bench. Lucas treated oil became like mayonnaise after while on the test bench.
So here is onother thought, was this the first time you used Lucas oil treatment on this engine? And you are getting warning light?
Or warning light came on first and you decided to put Lucas oil treatment?
If you take off the pump, you should take mesurments first to be sure it is out of spec before you buy new one.

well i talked with a few shops and found out that its more likely the berings then the pump but im going to check both of them.. i pulled the valve cover and cleaned it out it was pretty gunky and the oil pan and found the pick up screen was a little dirty but not to bad. i checked the rod berings with plastagage and they are perfectly fine. so im going to ckeck the main berings and then pull the pump and check it. wile im having it apart im going to replace afew parts.
well its confermed that its the berings not the oil pump so im going to take a d15 that i have laying at the house and do a mine me change cause i dont have the money for a berings and to have the job done. and i can do the swap myself. i think i might have more power after becasue im guessing that my compression will be higher. but not sure yet
