who knows, S2000, or STi?
it's come down to it, 2 diff classes, 2 diff cars. I've test driven both, and reviewed every single review there is on both cars, both expert, and user reviews, i've checked inside out, and it really becomes a choice of whether or not i want practicality, or entertainment, or both...
untill i sat inside i didn't realize how tight the s2000 is, fits like a glove, nonetheless i feel it's very close, the close 6 is great, but i found the steering was a little tough, the boot is indeed miniscule, but the seats are godlike.
the WRX STi (both cars '04) obviously has more space, yet i question the quality of the interior. never was a big fan of sedans, but the room is always useful. the all wheel drive is much needed, and i feel the STi really sticks to the road, but the S2000 gets down and dirty with it, so even closer! i appriciate the boot space, and i love the sound that both make, but when the foot goes down, oh my god, i feel the G's pulling, (more in the sti than the s2000 - untill VTECH kicks in - which is amazing as well!)
it all comes down to finances, i've got one silver/red interior s2000 (2004) with 7000 miles for just over 27000$. and the exact same price i've got the same Subaru same year, with black ext. and 32000 miles. insurance in my case it's cheaper to go with the sedan, but i'm really on the fence here.
sigh... choices choices choices.

yeah it would be a tough choice for me as well if i didn't have an intense passion for the s2, but i do. well from what i've heard with the s2 vs. sti stock for stock, the sti has greater start off but the s2 kills it in top speed
What are you going to use the car for? DD with a family or just a weekend type sports car to have fun with? Track? A little of each?
My opinion is obviously a little biased because I own one, but I would go for the S2000. I'm in love with mine, but I haven't driven the STI. I prefer the two seater convertible with 50/50 weight distribution and Vtec. Boost in't bad either, but like I said, go for the S2K.

It seems like you already answered your own question. Though you did mention numerous positives about a s2000 ownership. It seems that your needs would best be satisfied by a STI.

i would get an EVO over an STI....
but either way... i would never buy a USED EVO or STI... it's just to much trouble, you don't know the previous owner, and if he/she was an enthusiast they've driven that car like they stole it, and it being a turbo there could be problems. and the reliability with them isn't all that great......
as for the S... i wouldn't mind buying used (i bought mine new)..... yes you don't know the previous owner, and more then likely the person drove it like they stole it (cause i know i do) but it's an NA opposed to a turbo, which is easier to take care off, and less headaches..

the way i see it, the wrx or the evo are both like driving a civic. im not referring to the way the drive, but rather the styling. they are both econo style sedans. basically beefed up versions of cheap cars. ive driven both of them, but wasnt impressed. they were fast, but so is a camaro, and i would rather slam my nuts in the trunk of an s2000 and drag it around town with my ******* than drive a camaro.
if you want straight line performance, you can allways boost an s.
the wrx has mac struts, so that kills it for me right there.
they both feel like rental cars on the interior compared to the s.
the s is a true sportscar, that is partially handbuilt, what more could you want

actually, i am starting to like it more and more. the big nose thing looks like flared nostrils and the front looks meaner now. at first i HATED it and thought it was on par with a dodge neon with neon lights.

well as i said, i've done research to see how RELIABLE the sti is, and ofcourse the person who buys it, is going to drive it, LIKE it's meant to be driven (the same goes for the S2000), either way, they're both made to be driven a certain way... and the fact that from the thousands that have been left stock, under 1% have had problems with the engine. as far as looks go, i dont mind it, i adore the hood, and the stock sound. since i'm so biased on the STi, whenever i see an S2000 i think (cramped) if i want to carry something around, or go somewhere with a few people, it suits me better. practicality. with sportivity.
another reason, here in jacksonville, i've seen about 10-15 S2000's in the past week! i've seen maybe 2 or 3 STi's... it doesn't really bother me, but like the mustang, i dont want another cliche of a car.
cheers!

i have owned both... had an 01, and 04 s2000 and now i drive a 05 sti...
totally different vehicles, although they are in the same price range.
the s2000 is a total eye catcher with a beautiful figure and a great feel in the cockpit. the power is good and if you like cruising with the top down this is your car. this is just a wonderful sports car that has great reliability and seriously you just cant say enough about the looks.
the sti to me looks great but i dont get as many complements as in the s2000. 300 hp, 300 torque feels great, brembo brakes, awd, that great to. 4 door is so practical, you dont sacrafice space for performance. 6 cd stereo kinda sucks. boxter engine sounds weird.
after thats said. they are both great cars but they feel so so different its just pretty insane, i loved the s2000 for cruising and the complements with this car just never end. my sti has a couple bolt ons and the torque this thing has is just amazing. i got a little tired of the space the s2000 offered. i wanted to go on vacation a couple times and theres just no room for anything but another person. i got tired of the noise of an convertible and theres no way i would trade in my sti for another s2000.
i cant wait for the new 06 sti to come out. im getting one.
sorry but performance wise you just cant compare the S' to the STI. the sti will blow it away in anything you compare them. im not sure what test say but thats just the way i feel them. the s2000 is looks and the sti is performance...
