Question about legalizing a JDM ITR.
I have a friend with an Integra type R from japan that is all in pieces but soon to be put back together. I was wonder how hard it would be to register/insure it in California, if anyone has ever done this themselves your help is much appreciated. Thanks -T
Everytime I've asked I always get told "I can tell you anything about the car except for that" ARGH! Whats the big secret that can't be shared!?
But they told me, everything can be found online, just have to spend hours researching. I'm too lazy so I just bought a new USDM car

My understanding is that there is quite a bit of time, money, and effort involved in the process, and unfortunately in the end you'll have a car that will be an even bigger target for theft/vandalism than a USDM ITR.
only real way that i know of for that car is to do it shady. it isn't on the list of cars that can be imported and modified for street legality like the gtr is. that would take quite some time to get that done and you would need like 5 of them for crash testing and blah blah blah. just part it out and get a usdm one, then convert it.

Well, first of all, the guy asked how to legalize a jdm R that was in pieces and in Cali.
1- Mine came in one.
2- I live in NY
There is a place around my way in Long Island, that has the cars right to them. They have a customs area in there shop. Cars get ported there and they legalize them to DOT standards there. Everything is 100% legal. I can get anyone any car they want.
But w/e

Amen. Couldn't agree more. I just stated that about the left-hand just to be an *** because the guy gave me a cookie. =/

no
DOT requires front bumper and doors to be replaced with USDM or similar versions or they will not be legal also if it doesn't come with airbags they so need to be equipped
Basically what happens in the end is they end up costing alot of money and I've never seen it done legally in cali for less than nearly double the cost of a US version unless some seriuos hookups were involved
FYI cars registered in other states are not automatically permitted into california based on that alone.
Alot of the more famous cars in mags ect are vin swaps and are subject to being confiscated now at car shows by undercovers ect.
There used to be a nice loop hole were cars were allowed into the country for 1 year but I believe that has been closed now.
There is a great article on it in honda tuning may 05

haha...RHD..... who cares..... just a waste of time going around the car to get gas.
.... I'm kidding..... I'm just jealous. ....... here's a funny story I heard....
This guy goes to pick up this chick from a DJ party in his RHD converted hatch. She comes outside to meet him.
Dude goes, "Why don't you get in with me and go back to my buddies house party"She goes, " Ok.... you gonna let me drive?"
Dude goes, "Sure why not".
Before he gets a chance to take off his belt, bitch was on the left side of the car. She hops in and says " Oh crap! where is your steering wheel?"
True story
Dumb bitch

um okay your calling her dumb when it probably cost the guy a good 3K with paint and labor to put his steering wheel on the other side of the car like some riced out mail truck conversion.
It's one thing to by a RHD car because it's cheaper, I've had several myself.

Have you guys ever noticed that crappy, pointless threads that start like, well, see above, always turn into slugfests. Priceless...
I guess we need humor every once in a while.
Seriously though, when you start a thread will a non-descriptive first post, what kind of responses do you truly expect to elicit?
