importing a type R????
Ive seen some sites online that you choose your car from a japan auction
you pay them and they ship out the car you bid.
well my question is has anyone on here ever bidded on a japanese auction??
or anyone bought a car thru such a importer as i described??
if so please explain your experience. an steps you took.
obivously the car comes into america unregistered i understand that.
what i am curious about is does the car come in one piece??
since from what ive heard some jdm cars come into american shores missing something/taken apart to get thru customs easier correct me if im wrong though.
is it also possible to ship a shell out from japan here to america??
anyways any help is greatly appreciated thanks!!!
p.s if you have bought a jdm car like this please tell me which company o name of importer you bought it of off thanks!!

Re: importing a type R????
there have been so many threads about this it isn't even funny
if you want a legal type r-ish car you buy a front clip from canada for $4500-5000 shipped. take an RS shell and do your build up
if you import the car you will pay a LOT more, will have a hard time legalizing it...wait, wrong word, having it registered since actually legalizing one would take actual DOT certification.
you can search for some of the threads if you like. seriously though, long story short, buy the front clip and install the dash forward on an RS, bolt on the suspension and you have a nice clone that's actually legal.
very very few JDM cars are actually legal from the newer generation. only a handful of R33's are actually federalized that motorex brought in before that was all shut down.

i dont want the car to be legalize here i dont care about that
i just want the car lol
im asking to see if anyone on here has bought one from a auction in japan
and they import them here.
i know its a PITA to register it.
and i know its easier to buy a rhd clip an slap it into a rs shell
but that costs as much if not more then the real deal rhd car

Hi,
Not sure about importing a Type R to the states, from what i have heard it is pretty hard.
Importing to the UK is pretty simple.

Re: importing a type R????
Dr. DC2 started a thread a month or two ago with any and all info you need to know about importing/registering an ITR (or any JDM car for that matter). You will definitely want to use an importer though, and not just bid for yourself from what I've read. Getting one for a track car or show car?
Here's the thread: https://honda-tech.com/forums/acura-integra-type-r-8/importing-grey-market-vehicle-facts-whats-legal-whats-not-2805656/

Re: importing a type R????
Now I'm in Ireland, but I do know of one English guy who did(for good reason as they're cheaper here). I presume it's the same process as importing any car into the UK. Inform the customs and excise department, pay any VAT or import tax involved(IIRC it wasn't much) and then get type approval for UK roads. Again IIRC this involves getting the speedometer calibrated for miles and fitting a rear fog light. That's if it's JDM, an original Irish car won't require these steps of course. Then get an MOT, tax and insurance and done.
