Default tranny problems

so i just got the rex running, and by me i mean not me but in fact steve, and i take it down the road.

in town its fine, but when i get over 35-40 it wont stay in 5th gear. i try to hold it in gear and i can feel pressure building up untill i feel it force its way out of gear. and i dont mean a little. i feel a little pressure build, it holds for a but then it just forces its way out.

this happens at random intervals both in time and mileage. vary's from once after 2 miles to 5 times in the next mile etc.

i am running a b16 with the matching lsd tranny, dude told me it was first gen jdm.

actually i did have a defective rear motor mount, and by defective i mean there was no bolt in it, but that could have comeoff when i was rallyx'ing it, after i put a bolt in it didnt fix it.

i dont understand why if its the clutch/pressure plates it would only effect 5th tho could you elaborate??

oops I misread I didn't realize it was just 5th.

Perhaps you are not shifting it all the way in?

haha hey man I wasn't try to say you were stupid. I've had it where it seems like its in gear drive a bit and then pops out. No biggie just made sure I put it all the way in gear.

Man now if I can remember how these (tranny's) work correctly...

It for sure only acts up in 5th gear? JUST 5th?

no other gears what so ever?

What type of rpms are we talking?

only fifth, and it was only at speeds over 40 but its getting worse and now does it whenevr i hit 5th, i can run in 4th all day at any rpm, but it will not stay in fifth, it almost feels like a cam is forcing it out of gear. you can feel it push the stick out of gear

(theory in play)
....
Perhaps the shift for inside the tranny is slightly off and not fully engaging it .

i had a similar problem with an '87 teg...

we ended up replacing several parts in the 5th gear cluster and the problem went away like magic

replaced: synchro ring, 5th gear detent parts, thrust spring, and the needle bearing assy, and the ball bearing assy. and a couple of more items while we had it apart.
