Default grinding noise from rear drums before and after changing brake shoes....please help...

there is a noise from the rear drums when i hit the brakes and the ebrake when i am rolling. I thought it was the shoes but i changed those and it is still there. I also had the drums turned and the noise is still there. Anyone had this problem? I have a 97 civic cx... 1.6 non vtec.

take the drum back off and look for any worn spots. If it's making grinding noises it will sure leave some kind of bare metal showing to give you a clue as to whats scraping. sounds like you assembled something wrong when you changed the shoes.

in any event, check it soon as whatever is making noise might just work itself loose and lock up your brakes.... not good.

Take the drums of and sand them and then clean the hell out of them

Had the same problem, took the drum off, sanded it and cleaned it dry cloth and never had a problem again...

Maybe the first 100-200 miles but then it would stop cos the shoes would wear out...

Just clean the inner surface of the drum and that's it...

I posted in your other post about the adjuster.... Just out of curiosity what did you end up doing to get the drum back on? Also now that they are back on what kind of shoe did you get? I put semi-metallic on a civic I used to have and they sounded like they were grinding and then I found out the rear pads are supposed to be organic and that's why I was getting so much noise.

i had the drums resurfaced and they went on after that no problem.....i had to push on the ebrake lever a little too, but mostly when i resurfaced them it fixed the problem. I used some cheap refurb. brake shoes. I am not sure what type of material they were made from.
