It's not "really necessary" to upgrade shocks, but if your going to tamper with the suspension you might as well do it right. Get some koni yellows, they are adjustable for your liking whether its stiff or soft.

Actually youll be fine if its only 1.3 1.5...thats alright but just to let you know your shocks are going to go out some time and you might as well buy some yellows they are cheap like he said..

You'll be fine. Do you mean H Tech or S-Tech?

I'm running Tien S-Tech's that are giving me about 1.5-2" drop on stock shocks. I love the Tein's and the ride is still fine.

i lowered my old 93 hatchback about 1.5-2" on stock shocks for about two years and it worked okay until the last year I owned it. I think you should be fine.. but koni yellows would be a really nice upgrade and kucherenko is right:<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by kucherenko &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">if your going to tamper with the suspension you might as well do it right. </TD></TR></TABLE>

i meant tein "H" tech...which i heard s techs give 1.9 up front and 1.7 drop in the rear...and for "H" techs, i heard they give a 1.3 drop up front and 1.1 in the rear...

does anyone kno if tein s-techs or h-techs really lower your car as much as they say they do?? like s-techs wit 1.9 up front and 1.7 in the bak and h-techs wit 1.3 up front and 1.1 in the back...and/or are they lower or higher than what they say and by how much??

also what about kyb agx?? are those good??

It sucks. I have Omni coilover sleeves with OEM struts. I bottom out A LOT, at the tiniest of approach angles doing more than 2 MPH.

I bottom out too. I just figured it was from having the car lowered, period. I thought it would do that with stock or aftermarket shocks/struts. Aftermarket shocks/struts will stop the bottoming out crap?

With my S-Tech's I've got about a 1.5-2.0" drop. I never really took an exact measurement.

You might as well replace the struts while replacing the springs since you'll have access to both. I'm sure stock struts will age faster with a different spring rate..

I have Teins on my Del Sol. The drop was almost exactly 1.3 inches. See my garage for pictures of the stance.

I put on KYB AGX struts - on the lowest setting the car feels just like stock.

I picked up a set of Eibach pro-kit springs for next to nothing, and I used my stock shocks with them. No problems thus far, not bottoming out very much, usually only on big bumps going fast, only marginally worse than before the springs. Not had a noticible problem with uneven wear on the tires. Ride isn't much harder than before the springs, def much better than w/ coil overs. Then again, mine's a 92 si w/ steelies, but you ought to be alright. I do plan to upgrade, but $ is tight. If you're loaded, go ahead and upgrade. If not, ehh... slap 'em on.

been using stock shock on the si with neuspeed sports for 3 years now.... and it rides like just how i want it. not too soft, not too stiff. Just a little bit stiffer then stock. But if they are to blow, I'd get agx

you might want to cut the shock bumpers/stops, that will help the shock work more efficiently with coil overs or drop srings. not to mention helps shocks last a bit longer.

Oooh - also, with my 1.3 drop on the Del Sol, I did NOT need a camber kit - very important detail...

PURCHASE NEW SHOCKS. EVEN IF THEY ARE STOCK SHOCKS FOR YOUR CAR. WITH ALL THE MILES ON YOUR SHOCKS ( IF THEY ARE THE ORIGINALS FROM WHEN YOUR CAR CAME OUT SUCH AS 1998) IT IS BEST TO REPLACE THEM BEFORE AND WHEN YOU ARE LOWERING YOUR CAR WITH SPRINGS OR COILOVERS. IF YOU DONT REPLACE THEM, YOU WILL BLOW YOUR SHOCKS IN A MATTER OF DAYS. I WOULD RECOMMEND GSR OR TYPRE R STOCK STRUTS.

I thought you might have had a point until I read "you will blow your shocks in a matter of days".

I've had my car lowered on stock shocks for 3 months, and however long the guy had the springs/shocks before I did. Still riding fine.

And damn it HKS_USA, turn off the caps lock.

YOur only droppin it 1.3 -1.5 youll not need camber kit... and you wont bust your shocks...now theyll wear down more cause they have lower travel..when you get down to 2.5 3.5 then you need camber and then you need struts for sure..
