<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">First, the GT LIVE team sincerely thanks you for your past support and future interest in GT LIVE. No doubt you're here because you don't want to miss another GT LIVE and we're looking forward to delivering the next one to you.
Bringing the Super GT series here for a 2005 GT LIVE proved to be full of insurmountable scheduling obstacles. Our 2004 event took us 3 years of logistics work to set up and unfortunately, it did not get much easier the second time around so we are skipping 2005 to allow us to focus on delivering a higher quality experience in 2006.
The great news for 2006 is that we are planning three GT LIVE events: one in California, one on the East Coast and a third GT LIVE at a location to be announced soon. We'll issue a formal announcement at the end of August that will include a specific schedule and an overview of all the content in our 2006 GT LIVE tour. If you made it to GT LIVE 2004, you know it was all about the content, with endless things to do and see and no time for boredom. 2006 will be no exception. Stay tuned!
In the meantime we thank you again for your support and e-mails and we're looking forward to seeing you at one or all GT LIVE events in 2006!

That is majorly disappointing, I was about to book my airfare to this event.
At any rate, I'm kind of skeptical about them holding 3 events next year. For them to get a significant amount of spectators at those events they are going to have to do overcome a lot of obstacles. Obstacles that all of the major road racing series in the US haven't really figured out.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see them succeed and it is possible but the reality of the motorsport business in the US is harsh and going from 0 events one year to 3 with no TV package and very few venues that are close to major metro areas is no mean feat. On the bright side on the East Coast maybe they'll come to VIR or Road Atlanta.

That sucks. Speed Tv needs to get more involved in this kind of events, not eveybody likes NASCAR, or dirt-track events. They don't even have to broadcast live. Even during the winter they should broadcast JGT races.
I hope they come back next year, and the third event is in Vegas. I think the east coast event should be in Florida.

With Speed a lot of it is a matter of who is willing to up the money for air time. Maybe Speed could buy the rights to show the series but its hard to say if they could get the audience for it, especially considering they barely even promo the series they are the title sponsor of (World Challenge).
As for the venues, I think Vegas would be horrible for it as would be Florida. Vegas is a great city and all but I doubt you're going to get more spectators to come out to Vegas if you have another race just 3 hours down the road. Furthermore, if you have a choice of where they should run at, a roval should be the LAST place they run at.
As for Florida, there's Homestead, Sebring, and Daytona. Sebring is an okay track but not great for spectating. Daytona and Homestead is the roval thing again. If anything they should do Road Atlanta.

Speed channel sucks, I watch less and less, it's becoming more like "NASCAR TV" than anything else. They will need to get a special channel for NASCAR fans eventually.
Wasn't the Cali event last year in the roval? Besides, Vegas doesn't have the local population to host such a race, but visitors from all over the world might enjoy it, and since we get lots of them and specially asian tourists perhaps that helps.
Road Atlanta is a good choice, but I'll take Daytona or Homestead instead.

roval's aren't very challanging in road course configurations, they need to do it at a really good road course so that the drivers enjoy it. If the drivers don't enjoy it then why are they going to spend ALOT of money to come to the US and race just for the hell of it?

Yeah, i'm tired of the NAScrap channel (speed channel). but i don't think that will change. nascar is boring, except when they run at infineon an I get to see those cars try to corner like a GT car and destroy their brakes. That is entertaining. Jeff Gordon is the only really that knows how to race with turns.

I wish they would run it at Seca and bring out a bunch of the corresponding(sp) class ALMS cars to run with them, that would be some great racing to watch.
Oh well miss jgtc this year so why doesn't everyone take a trip up to laguna in october to watch the alms race? I think it is going to be a night enduro again

the original JGTC event was the greatest event I've ever been to, I'm disappointed that it won't be on this year but I'm sure in 06 it'll come back strong.

??? Tony Stewart, Robbie Gordon, and even Junior all do well when they switch to road courses and all of them have been quick in other disciplines of racing. I'm not a big NASCAR fan either but I can guarantee you that all of the guys at the pointy end of the grid would not be too bad if you put them in any of the sportscar racing series.

Road Atlanta regularly draws 30000+ fans for the ALMS stuff. It is televised live and pushed hard on local radio and TV though.
Its got the Panoz money behind it.
Places like VIR and such are great tracks, but they are in the middle of nowhere. If they want to do it at a TRUE road course, it needs to be one within 30 minutes of a major metro area. You simply won't get 30K spectators at VIR, likely not even 10K.
And enough of the NASCAR bashing. I'm not a fan either (I don't like the big heavy cars or the love of crashes or the 99% turning left), but those guys can DRIVE.
When you ignore this, you are being just as ignorant as you say the NASCAR fans are.
Here's a quote for you. I got it from a thing called a "Newspaper."
"I'm still learning every weekend and the talent level of the guys I'm racing against still amazes me. I mean, I'll go into a turn as deep as I think I can go and somebody will blow right past me."
Thats from a guy named Boris.
Scott, who says even if you're only turning left car control is car control.

I was at the ALMS/Speed WC weekend at Road Atlanta in may - I am pretty sure there were more crew members than specators, the crowd was *really* thin. With tickets that were going for over $70/weekend, I can see why. You just cant make it a family thing - 2-3 tickets, some food, maybe a t-shirt is a $300 event.

They're seriously stretching those numbers. There was in no way 30,000 individuals, crew, drivers, officials, staff and vendors that walked through those gates during that weekend.

Makes it all the more sad that the 100,000+ fan DC ALMS venus is gone....
