Anyone Recover a Theft Using Lojack?
I'm considering getting Lojack, after reading here about the numerous thefts of ITR's lately. Has anyone here had a Lojack-equipped car stolen? If so, could you please describe your experience - how you reported it, how responsive the police were in tracking it down, and if you got your car back, how long it took?
Im teken (the mod) he knows all when it comes to these things. I used to think LoJac was the best, but I hear/read people who had lojac and they never saw their ride again. They can only hide their transmitter's in so many places.
the warranty itself i think is worth it. they will pay back for your car if it is gone for 30 days and pay you back the price of the lojac if it isn't recovered in 24 hours. worth it in my opinion. i got mine free from the dealership along with an alarm.
lojack will refund the money of the unit if the car is not recovered, not to mention your insurance rate would be lower as well. I think its worth it.
I do have lojack equipped in my car, but I always thought that if they take it into a warehouse or underground area, that it would be useless? How strong can the signal be?
Who cares if you get the $39.99 (or whatever it costs) back.. I WANT TO KEEP THE CAR!
The Lowjack has a LESS THAN 10% RECOVERY RATE. That is not fixing the problem, I am talking about KEEPING the car at home, not "trying" to track it after its already gone, by then who cares.. ITS GETTYING STRIPPED as the LOCrap operator has you on hold, because she didnt get her smoke break...

It is very easy to defeat the LoJack signal. I can make a unit for ~ $25 with parts from radio shack to block LoJacks signal so no one could ever find the car.
I suggest good alarm with some "extra goodies" to help deter thiefs.
I am convinced deterence (sp?) is the way to go.

I think LoJacks are useless. I had actually looked into a systems the costs about 1000 then you pay 10 a month for service and you can check the location of your car over the web, do not need to rely on LoJack and the police to find it.
i agree with half of that.
rely on the lojack to tell you where the car is.
but dont rely on the cops. they dont care. they dont like us. they want all of us driving DX's .

Insurance? Yeah by $32 per 6 months. I have one on my Pathfinder I thought it will pay for itself in insurance after a couple of years.

"Why Lo Jack Sucks" By: Mike
LoJack sucks because they have a low recovery rate. Why you ask? Because the units that pick up the Lojack signal are only in a small amount of police cars. You ask yourself Why is that, Why wouldnt all the police have them? Well that is because LoJack are a bunch of A-Holes, Not only do they charge you a crapload per year and for the unit, But they also charge the police to use their service, Most police depts. do not see the price as being something to keep in their budget, especially in high crime poor areas. Now where is your car most likley going to be? Yes in a high crime poor area where the police do not have the unit to pick up your lojacks signal. Most state Police have these units in their cars, But what are the chances of them coming off major roadways or being in that area and picking up the signal? Not very high, Which explains the LOW Recovery rate.

Find yourself a good system, that uses GPS and Cellular, Alpine had one, and boomerang should be available soon

once again, it all comes down to laying I guess. I have been thinking of increasing it again. I've just been lax about it. Although these are just deterrants, I like to make it a beotch for the thief to take away my car. Towing I cannot take care of.
I know some people have the Powerlock as well. Anyone suggest this layer of protection?

i'm not trying to be an a**hole but some of you guy's talk way to much sh*t! you complain about car theives and how you want to stop them from getting your cars, and yet you complain saying that lojack doesn't work for sh*t! neither does a car alarm! car theives get through them no matter what, and yet you praise and tell everyone to get a car alarm instead, what happens when a car alarm goes off? all it does is makes some noise for about a minute then stops, no one even pays attention to an alarm(and i know all of you do this) going off, so how is that going to help?
lojack does work (alot more than just 10% so stop over exaggerating) and i would recommend it to anyone as another deterant device. for $500 bucks or less thats a smalll price to pay to have the added security of knowing you car is partially safe, rather than spending more to get it fixed or worse having it totally taken away from you permanently.

Hmm, could you be directing that at me?
If you are I will tell you know, that alarms are not wortheless, Its all about the Install and layers of protection.
If you have an Alarm Basic or top model its not going to do much good when its just mounted in the same old place with obvious wiring and a Siren out in the open of the engine bay, making it easy to cut off.
You should pay more for an alarm install than you do for the alarm...
Also have things like the Club, Auto lock, Hood pins, backup batteries, hood locks and the like. LAYERS

thats what i meant having added security of knowing that the lojack is there, i have an alarm also but i'm not relying on it to protect my car, and i'm not relying on the lojack either, its just added security of knowing its there. the one you should be relying on is yourself to protect your own car, and no one else.
Okay, so just to summarize the answer to my question - none of the people writing in the 22 posts above has ever had a Lojack-equipped car stolen.
If there's anyone who has, could you please post?
I wasn't asking for opinions, I was asking for experience... Not that I don't appreciate the advice, but I'd like to hear from someone who actually went through this.
