I'm selling my car and i'm thinking about getting an accord and putting an h22 swap in it. I was curious if accords handle well or have decent acceleration. i wont be doing the swap for a year or so after I buy the car. So please share some details.
Sorry, I mean the car to do autox. But with a swap. Im going to drive the accord for a year if i get it then do a swap.

For a street car, a mid-90s Accord with an H22 would be a fun car and more than capable or autocrossing or HPDEing. Just don't count on it being competitive in anything - to heavy relatiev to other cars that it usually gets classed against (Integra, etc).

They handle very well indeed, taking all kinds of bumps in stride. The wide track makes it very stable in almost all situations.
Unless you're really building that H22 swap, no, it won't go very well against the other modified cars with which you will have to run. There is also a small brake deficit, and if you buy one with ABS you'll notice that it's really an old fashioned ABS system.
What's winning though, right? You'll have a blast just like these guys do.

any reason there's a cone stuck on the wheel of the se-r in the background?
a problem - it's more of a nuisance actually - is that the aftermarket for good suspension parts is very limited for the accord

I've been autoxing my 4 door Accord extensively the past year. So here is my 2 cents, take it for what its worth.
Do you want to win or do you want to have fun? If you want to win then get a car that is a winning car. A swapped Accord would be in SM where you have STis, EVOs and what nots winning. If you want to have fun then by all means go for it. I have a blast driving the Accord, winning every so often but mostly finishing and having a good time.
The 5th gen Accord has power and enough of it, what it also has is weight and the distribution of the said weight. At 3200 with me in it the car is about 600 lbs heavier than the winning car in HS. Its also a big car, longer wheel base means you don't transition through corners easily.
What it comes down to is what you expect from the sport. If you want victories then you are going for the wrong car, but a CRX or Civic HB it'll get you those wins. If you want to have fun safely and legally then by all means go for it.
Of course there are other factors like driver which account for a lot more than car. I've finished 3-4 seconds behind seasoned veterans in better cars. Thats an eternity in autoxing.
Would I get another car? Sure next year when I want to be competitive. Right now the bone stock Accord on street tires will be enough for me. Its the learning phase right now and the Accord has taught me a whole lot more than a better car would.

Well...what are you waiting for G-money?!?!

Take it from me: Unless you absolutely need extra space for the baby seats, buy something else. You're going to shoot yourself in the foot by buying an overweight, uncompetitive autocross car, and spending lots of $$$ in a feeble attempt to make it go faster and be more "competitive", when you could've simply started off with the correct chassis, spending less $$$ and having infinitely times more fun doing it.

I'm with you. I feel no more need for the accord. I don't know how good a driver I am as I have yet to go to an event. I probably wont until I get my speeding tickets over with. Hopefully I wont lose my license but there is a good chance I will with a 57 in a 35 and a 75 in a 35... While passing in a no passing zone. Driving stupid on the streets has no place in my mind anymore. I drive normal now. I need somewhere to drive like a maniac.
A In SM were you run its civic and supra that battle it out
I would say go for it i if i had the same general mods i have in my civic in a 90-97 sedan. i would still place if not win locally in SM. Would i be close national hell no, but i could seat four people in comfort.

Josh I have no doubt you are a very good driver, you give Kent R a run for his money and that take a lot of talent. But, I highly doubt you could get an Accord into an SM winning car without investing a LOT of money into it.
I have debated that option, an H22 and completely stripped but its still not going to stand a chance.

Preach on brutha... I have more fun running the Accord than any other car I've codriven. Its not a winner, but its damn well fun to drive... plus that leather is oh so comfy.

With out Kent probably locally i could beat everone here in well preped accord.
Now that i am awake assuming noone has really well prep Sm car locally. a good driver in a H22 accord would have a chance with a decent suspension, wide wheels(16x8s?) and a LSD. It would weigh no more than mini cooper S for instance(there is cooper S that locally is fast just the owner isnt very fast ie when people co-drive it it is faster) and could handle better.
I think it would be fun and semi competive, but please consider i am planning on having H22A 92-93 wagon to replace my currrent DD soon. I will run it at an AX or 2 just for **** and giggles
