Is anyone else kind of wondering where these shells came from?

Sorry, maybe it's just the paranoid ex-ITR because it got stolen owner in me.

It says they are legit..."I have the VIN #'s and the records to show these are legitimate vehicles and you are buying from a excellent source! " but still makes me wonder...normally you just don't get ITR shells sitting around.

And by the looks of this one http://www.importclassifieds.c...D=713 and the mold, water, and dirt caked on it, it has been sitting for a while.

Just doesn't make sense.

If I had the liquid assets, I think it would make perfect sense to buy theft recoveries at auction and part them out. Even a car missing interior and motor that goes for two grand at auction has some profit to be made if you can market the parts, have the room, and have the spare income to float it.

Copied from ITR forum where I replied....

"Nothing to worry about guys.

It is actually a Type-R graveyard indeed.

The cars were bought back from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC)

Where they are being held now is at well known reputable (LEGIT) wreckers in Vancouver, BC.

How do I know? I used to go there on a bi-weekly basis.....ahhh..the good ol' days....

Morad and G3-TEG are good peoples... "

what is the advantage of getting an ITR body when there is no suspension, doors, engine, etc.....

why not just get an RS at that point? Maybe there is some magic **** in the ITR body/chassis that I don't know about?

is the steering **** all there? maybe an ITR has quicker steering???

The R's body is stronger in various places like the rear pillars and the rear Xmember amongst other locations....

It's detailed in the FAQ I'm sure in the ITR forums.

If you were to cage it, then there's really not true benefit.... but hey.... it looks better cuz it has no side moldings....

BSME...and no....this is what happens after thieves have their way with ITRs

just playing aboot the theives ay. its surprising to see so many shells in one place ay.

the more stripped they are the cheaper they should be. its like your only buying the bragging rights now. "yes, its a real type R"

someones needs to pick up one of these shells and stick a D16 in there with drums in the back

For some racing classes, you need a valid VIN, so the RS wouldn't work.

Also, I believe the ITR had a different fuel tank, extra chassis bracing, and maybe some other changes over non-ITRs.

All legitiment concerns. However, do you really think someone would leave stolen ITR shells in plain view like 10ft from a major interestion?

These are all canadian Theft/Recovery vehicles from British Columbia at a local yard that we deal with. And yes, they have been sitting for a long time. There isn't a lot boy that washes these shells on a weekly basis.

As for reregistering them, rules/laws may be different up there, but it states on the title that they are for "dismantle only".

Please check your local state laws about registering such a vehicle imported from Canada. If you are a SERIOUS buyer, we can fax/forward you all the paperwork, including VIN, etc.

As posted in the ITR forum, salvage titled chassis's CAN be re-registered in WA state.

this what i got off the washington state DMV site ( http://www.dol.wa.gov/vs/tr-sa...hicle ) ...

Can I retitle a vehicle that has been reported to the department as damaged, destroyed, wrecked or a total loss?

Yes. You can retitle the vehicle after the vehicle has been inspected and approved by the Washington State Patrol (WSP) and all appropriate license and title fees have been paid.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I get a WSP inspection?

You must contact the Washington State Patrol (WSP) to schedule an appointment for an inspection. For a list of WSP inspection locations and hours, please visit:

They look like the typical theft recovery chassis. My Integra looks like that. Damn thieves.

As someone who has registered a salvage car in Washington state, I will tell you that registering a chassis with no motor and missing body panels is going to be difficult and expensive. You need to purchase every part either new or from a licensed wrecker and have reciepts.

Can't just put a motor that you have lying around, take it to the inspection office you're going to have problems.

But for a race car, these would be sweet! If I had a bit more spending money I'd be interested.

I got this one.

The above ITR chassis isn't Franza's style.

Me, yeah I like a fixer-up project. But Franza doesn't believe in starting with busted, salvage, wrecked, used, poorly constructed, half assed or worn-out chit. Kinda like the dude that built the $30K OPM CRX but smarter. Franza will actually use it, most-likely kick H1 *** and when all is said in done be able to get top coin selling it. Sounds like what happened to his old H2 ITR doesn't it.

IMO- If you have the means and willingness to build from a "PERFECT" starting point... why not? The final product will be an exceptional race car.

Lastly, only review 2004 ECHC standing to confirm why some don't like to cut corners when it comes to building race cars.

John- who wishes WA. wasn't so far or he'd be *** deep into a new project.

I'm not sure how a $40k H1 ITR is going to be any smarter than a $30k CRX. The dude with the $30k CRX probably started with a

Because at that build cost, everything is going to get replaced and the shell repainted anyways.

RJ- Money isn't the point.

If an exceptional, cut-no-corners ITR race car is his "goal" then Franza is well on the way. I'd bet most of us would do the same if money were not an option.

I won't speak to J's build budget you'd have to talk to him.
