Default 94 EX AT leak. dont know where the leak

94 EX AT leak. dont know where the leak.

couldnt find anyhting on this but lets me explain the detail of the problem.

problem:
this past week i noticed a pretty big leak on my driveway, so i placed a cardboard under it. over a nite, theres like a big leak, almost like a quart or more on the cardboard. i then have to refill it, 2.5quarts which is almost the amt of which it contained.

checking it out:
jacked up the car and look at it, thot the leak was from the shift lever cover but it was all clean, from the flywheel to the housing wall. then i suspect the leak might be from the main housings. when i say the main housin, i really mean the whole housing that covers teh gears and stuffs. but anyways, i started up the car and let it idle on D for several min to see if it still leak when engine is warm but nothing. as of right now, the dip stick level is at FULL and nothing leak.

question:
has anyone have this problem b4 w./ their 94 accord EX auto tranny?
how do i go about it?
what if hte housing has a leak, is it worth the effort to replace hte seal aornd it or just replace a new used tranny?

right now, am waiting to see the exact location of the leak, if it still leaks.

I would check it by

1. degrease engine tranny
2. park over cardboard

The very first place I would check is the trans cooler lines as those are rubber and may be leaking. second I would check is the gaskets of any mating surfaces

1. check your seat belt and see if it's clean.

the cooler lines arent that clean due to residue from the distributor leak but its pretty dry compare to the wetness of the bottom of the tranny.

did that already, but like i said the most wetness area is the bottom of the tranny.

clean the bottom of tranny and dont freakin see the leak anywhere over nite. like last time it leaked a bunch on the cardboard over nite.

This is basic and I imagine you have added ATF so you know it was low. Look at your Power Steering Fluid and see if that is low. It is kindof in the area. I agree with get some brake cleaner or degreaser and clean the hell out of everything wet. Blow dry with compressed air if possible. I would not recommend driving or driving fast as the fans will blow stuff around and you may not get a good fix to where it is leaking. Also follow all things wet to the highest point.
Hope this helps.

That much ATF fluid loss could be a seal. I had a very small ATF leak that I discovered and fixed with a new ATF dip stick....old stick was'nt staying in tight.
Check that out too

chk the shifter shaft seal.............like most everyone has suggested clean the area and go test drive car and chk for leaks then,,,, some leaks such as axle seals will not show leak unless u drive the car,,,,,,

1 thing puzzles me u said u had to add 2.5 qts of ATF if such is the case you would have had some shifting issues being that low on fluid...yet u mention nothing about shifting issues,,,,,,,,have u run over any object on the road by any chance??? cracking the tranny case???

b4 the big leak, we had small leaks along the driveway but tranyn shifts normal. after the big leak, we havent driven it yet at all.

yes, 2.5 bottles, castroll to be exact. this is a lot of oil depleted.

tranny housing have scratches but no crackling.

the flywheel cover, where the shifter linkage, is super clean. however, the cover outside is very wet.

maybe driving it and then park it may find the leak. yeah ive clean the possible areas.

thanks everyone.

like i said, the flywheel cover, where the shifter cable is at, is super clean.

ive come to conclusion that the tranny case/housing seal is goin bad. prolly gonna invest on a new tranny.

will tranny from non-vtec models fit?
