EP3 tranny conversion
Hey,
I drive an '04 Civic Si. I'm looking to get a 6-speed tranny and upon doing some research I found that the tranny case for the ep3 is the same exact pt. # as the RSX Type-S. Does the clutch case match up too? Is it possible to take my tranny apart and convert it to 6-speed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I know that it's possible and has been done a couple of times. User "Nikos" can tell you how to do it.

something cool to do would be putting the type r finaldrive in there and go lsd.

If he has a USDM EP3, then he already has the 4.7 final drive. One of the cheap Type R Torsen axles for the K motors might be a good idea if you're going to really drive the car.
They show up on eBay every once in a whle for just a few hundred, or you can contact one of the OG eBay sellers like japandy and have him look out for one for you.
According to Nikos, the conversion is cheap and easy.
This is the guy I was talking about: https://honda-tech.com/zero...01149

http://www.k20a.org/forum/showthread.php?t=4502 <--That is a converted EP3 transmission for sale. The poster refers to the easy process and mentions an article in Honda Tuning that explains how to do it.
You could probably contact the seller for more information.
Now that I think about it, Nikos did mention that the tutorial would be published. Perhaps that's why I cannot seem to find it on his site. He actually showed me the text when it was finished, but I didn't save it.

if im not mistaking i think that you have to get rsx axles but other than that its all plug and play and you have to knotch something out in the instrument panel to where the shifter is
Thanks,
Recently I did find the artricle in Honda Tuning. It can all be done for about 1100.00. It says you need the 3-6 ring gears and countergears, 3-4 shift fork and a few other pieces. Sounds good, I'll start it in a few weeks and let you know how it turned out.

this thread is not talking about swapping a different transmission into his car. This thread is about converting his current 5 speed into a 6 speed by changing transmission internals.
BIG differencre, and if you ask me it is a lot easier and probably a bit cheaper if he finds deals on the parts he needs. Plus it will make him more experienced with diagnosing problems with his transmission because he will know how everything works.
There are many many plusses to converting it and doing it yourself.

Dude you don't have to get on my case about the thread. I was just saying if he had questions or anything. My bad. I mean I did my own swap and everthing and it was less than 1000 compared to the 1100 stated earlyer in this thread.

yes you can do it yourself just take your time with it and have the right tools for the job. the cases are the same. you will gain fuel milage on the interstate thats the only advantage i see from it personally thats my opinion my buddy did the swap and i still have the five speed and from a 60 punch i take him all the way through 5th and then half way through 5th he starts to pull really hard on me but by then your up to 120 + so i see no need for it. just my opinion but i would do for the hell of it if i had the money and time no the less good luck theres nothing more fun than working on a honda good luck

One thing to consider though...since you are using the rsx-s 6 speed...you can not utilize the reverse lock out for it...since the ep3 doesn't contain that connection via the wire harness. I have the k20a2/ and 6 speed in my ep3...teamed with the type s harness also. I hear it is pretty important to have that connection. At your own risk I guess. Also, you'll notice that they mention shaving away parts of the shifter for getting to reverse...I've heard later model ep3's don't need to do this... some 03's and most 04 and up
