Default CARB legal header or a way around the system?

OK... I just moved to CA and have already been pulled over for "suspicion". I have a few mods to the '95 GS-R motor (11.5:1 CR, ported head, Hondata, etc.), and plan on getting my Pro 1 cams installed after smogging the car, so I need a "good" header ("better" would be nice, but I hate paying court fees, so good might have to do...).

I know there are some really good headers out there for B18c's, but I would prefer to get something that is CARB legal, if there are any that work worth a crap. Of what I have seen, As far as I can tell, a DC 4-2-1 one pc, is a lame *** way to go, but it is legal, and I could weld a new 2.5" b-pipe on it to get some better flow, right???

Is there a better (legal) choice out there, or do I need to try and trick the CARB system, (off the record here...) and get a legal E.O. CARB number and attach it somehow to a non-legal header. Has anyone seen this done, or is the system smarter than that? Could I buy 2 headers, one legal and one not, and just use the legal one's paper work if a cop pops my hood?!?

I know the worst that happens is I get a fix-it ticket, and pay some fines, but if I could get out of it with out all of that, I would sure live a lot easier.

Sorry for the CARB noob questions...

Adrian (not my real name...)

I totally understand. This carb **** sucks in CA. It must be weird getting used to it comeing from another state that doesnt care.

Ur choices are
1. BUY a carb legal one
2. Buy a jdm itr & put the heatshield on it, cops will think its stock
3. Buy a dc jdm & get a carb plate off a normal dc & weld it to the jdm dc
4. Buy a custom header & try to find a carb plate that matches the finish & weld it to it
5. Say **** the cops

For options 2-4 u should be fine with any or almost all cops. Just dont try to pass that when u smog it too. Go back to stock for smog.

I went with the JG/Edelbrock header and modified the collector to 2.5". It has the CARB number on the header and has done pretty well on my 1.8l and my 2.0L.
