Default Another Dowel Question

Well I found some new dowels but am wondering if I should take them to the machine shop and have them shave them down. My head was resurface at .006 of an inch, so do they need it? I've heard "yes" and I've heard "no".

take the dowel pins, put them onto the block/head and bolt the block/head on and see if it will fit.

All dowel pins do is align the head to the block with the head gasket in-between

Thanks for the reply, anyone else? I've heard yes from a few people and no from others.
