thx nerologic but one more question would it be cheaper or better to replace the whole gearset how much would a new one from the dealer cost? and do i need bolth shafts counter and main? or is my best bet to change just the syncros? and if i do that do i need to break down bolth shafts?

honestly the only way to tell is actually looking at them, rigth now u cant say if ur going to need all that or not...

also if its a big spline ys1 u need 94+ GSR parts if its a small spline jdm tranny u need to contact gear-speed for those parts...

they are the best...but they are PROUD...see if you can get it done locally before you attempt to ship it off. Yes, replace the whole gear set and the syncros...might as well since you're in there.

A syncro looks like a gear( round with teeth on outer edge) if it is fauled you will know!! I just rebuilt mine with gearspped parts and all is good except 5th gear still slight grinds at high rpms!!
When rebuilding you want to get all new seals and bearings as well as the syncros and syncro sleeves!! Replacing the counter shaft and main shaft will be just as costly as ordering a stage 3 gearspeed tranny, plus a hughe hassle!! Your best bet would be to get a pro to rebuild it.
Now on to 5th gear, I don't know much about hybriding a tranny, but it might not be possible to replace fifth gear in the cable tranny. From what I recall there is one gear on each shaft that is perminate!! Call Gear Speed they will help you get the parts you need!!
