Hello I was hoping someone here can help me out, we just had our 01 ITR tranny replaced under warranty because it was making a noise under acceleration from the LSD, sounded like sand paper rubbing together, anyway this is the only ITR the local acura has ever worked on and couldn't get the problem solved and replaced it with a new one. My question is with the new tranny it is still making the same noise and I am affraid it is the disc's in the LSD slipping???? we had a 98 ITR and it's LSD never made any noise and acura is telling us that the noise is normal!!!!

 

I'd say a bearing, not the lsd.

 

well it beter not be a bearing, I mean the old tranny had every bearing gone in it, plus the LSD was burnt and reverse was gone, main shafft was shot.... this is a brand new tranny with 3500km on it, it better not be a bearing

 

The itr lsd is similar to a torsen lsd which uses helical cut gears (no clutch packs or discs which you are referring to).

When does this noise occur? under any load @ all? While rolling in neutral, rolling in gear with clutch depressed, etc.

More info needed.

 

ok good, I thought that they didn't have clutches but acura said that it was the discs in teh LSD so I guess they really don't have a clue down here

As for when the noise occurs, you hear it under hard acceleration usually after Vtec has opened and in every gear, I hear it the most when you ingage each gear then it dies down to no sound at all the higher in the gear you go...
I hope that this is enough info I can get a video of it making the same noise if needed
