Default clunking goes away when I hit the brakes

I have a slight clunk / rattle while going over bumps at low speeds / turning, and I noticed that if I ride the brakes as I go over the bumps, its solid as a rock.

anybody have any ideas?

its a 91crx gsr. brand new HF rack with new outers. H&R race springs with blues, shitty autozone axles, z10 crossmember, suspension tech sway bars, pull poly kit. this car should ride like a brick and its kinda shaky with the rattling going on in the front end.

thanks

Top A Arm Ball joints V likely Lower Ball joints or possibly tie rod ends.
Test by grabbing the tire at the top and really yank on it trying to recreate the clunks.. IF it does clunk your top A Arm joint is trashed.

nope, ball joints are solid ( i did both types of tests), and i changed the outer tie rods with the steering rack. it has done the shake from the day i owned the car and ive changed almost everything in the front end.

the only way i can recreate the problem is by hitting the wheel with a hammer and I see the wheel and the steering wheel shake but i cant feel anything moving!

the steering rack was alot of the problem but now it goes away when i hit the brakes...

Have you Actually Changed the Ball joints or just 'tested them ?? I've been fooled by testing before.. Take weight off of the wheel and suspension then try levering the balljoints up and down.
Could be Shock strut mounts, Radius arm bushings A Arm bushings all of them are possible culprits or even the inner tie rod ends.
Yeah ..it's tedious to.. really.. check everything but drastic measures for unsolvable problems :-)

After I did my clutch a while back, I had this (94 hatch, though). Turned out it was ALL EIGHT wheel lugs that were completely loose. First AND last time I put lugs on with an impact wrench It was actually more at mid-high speed, but bumps too.

When it clunks over bumps/through corners, I'm assuming you're coasting in gear? If that's the case, I'd be looking at those AZ axles closer. Try what makes it bump, but while in neutral.

i jacked up the car by the control arm and shook the hell out of it. when i hit the wheel with a hammer and it shakes / rattles, i put my hand on the ball joints and they were solid. inners are new (new rack). all bushings are new. im gonna check out the strut mounts, but i know they are new.

my lugs are not loose, ive had my wheels off 100+ times. i torque them every time. it happens no matter what for me, in gear, no gear, reverse, low speed, kicking the wheel when its stopped. i might upgrade to some gator axles and see if that helps.... but im still stumped as of right now.

NOTE! this is mostly on the passenger side. I thought the giveaway was the hitting the brakes and it stiffens up. I guess nobody had that similar problem?

i appreciate everyone's help so far.

Check crossmember bolts and where the traction bars bolt to it. Mine were loose and I had the same symptoms.

Yager-
