Default Possible Comparison if you guys are interested?

I'm going back out to see jeff evans to have my car retuned on the 1st of september.

I was curious if anyone would want to see back to back runs on the dyno with:
A. Screen mesh on the turbo
B. Open turbo
C. Cone Filter
D. Velocity stack

if this has been done then nm, i was just curious as to the outcomes

I think it was done between the screen and a filter. But nothing with good info comparing all of what you mentioned. I'd like to see as I'm in a screen/no filter situation, lots of mods needed to run a filter.

would be cool

I'd love to see it done.

looks like i'm picking up a velocity stack this week, i'll see if jeff can plot all the dyno plots on the same plot.

i don't see why he couldn't

You should also try just a flat K&N over the end of the turbo to see how much that will kill power. I would do that for street use than it'd be easy to just remove if it makes big difference with no filter. And also note what kind of screen you use.

Either way this will be cool to see the results. If i could fit a filter/intake i would run one. I may have to take the loss in power tho and use some sort of filtering device. Your dyno will help me pick what i should do

The velocity stack will likely make the most power, by 5-10hp or so. The open turbo and the filter will be very similar and the screen will loose power if it's a 3" inlet on the turbo, how much will depend on how the screen is made. That's my predictions anyways For what it's worth, i've done all this before on the dyno.

i was hoping to get a big name tuner in on this

everyone talks about it but i'm sure people will be happier getting their e-nuts off on some actual back to back dyno pulls

*by the way tony1, those are my predictions too* lol i just want proof

do you know where the cheapest place to get a 3'' inlet velocity stack?

dont listen to tony, haha, i just made 0 horsepower on the prelude today by taking off the screen. and thats at 350 whp and a 4 inch inlet.

nah, but some cars will gain, some cars wont.

all depends on the filter....or if there is any type of piping inbetween....

I'm not Tony, but we got my velocity stack from http://www.turbohoses.com.

does an inlet piping between the turbo and the filter make a difference?

all the tests are going to be done on an SC34 with the 3'' inlet

and thanks for the site andrea, still giving me a helping hand

From what i've seen, with a 4" inlet on the turbo, most screens have enough surface area to not restrict airflow. The turbos with a 3" inlet are the ones i've seen the losses on. A pipe getting the inlet away from hot air will almost always make more power too. Also, with the screen, the density of the mesh will really determine the power losses if any.

How would a 1" thick flat K&N filter work, like the factory drop in filter mounted directly to the end of a 4" turbo, cut to fit of course, kind of like a screen setup, only more suface area cuz it isn't flat like a screen. If you can understand what i am saying if not i will draw a picture, lol.
