What tires/tire sizes work best for a DD use ??
is there a good tire at a semi-economical price that work well on the s2k?

Hankook R-S2

205/55-16 $94.00
245/45-16 $116.00
Prices are the normal price from my local dealer
Bad *** tire for the money from what I hear

I got these and they are bad *** but I wish I would have bought the Hankooks for the money:

I have those Hankooks...damn great tire for the price!!! i just used them to the fullest yesterday on some real twisty roads in the mountains...whoa...they stick pretty good...not the BEST but damn good...

The wear on those Hankook's are not good, either.

For DD, I'd go for ES100's, MX's or, my pick, RE750's. These have good tread life and offer pretty good performance.

 

Michelin Pilot Sports PS2's are awesome. Good rain tire as well. Only downside is they are pricey.

 

would it be ok to have diff. tires in the front and back? I really need rears and can't afford fronts for about a month or so..

i got a set of Goodyear Eagle HP ZR Ultras for 720, mounted, balanced and an alignment. The alignment was 60, so lets say 165 each w/ the mounting and balancing...Maybe not that affordable, but way cheaper than a new set of Potenzas!!

 

dude i have the hp ultras too on the front i kinda like them ...how do they stick on the rear though?

Well, semi-economical price and good for track use. Hmmm....
FWIW: I have been tracking my S2000 with Bridgestone RE750s. I know I know, it isn't the best tire for the track use but here are the reasons I love about this tire.

They are very communicative at limit. Which is great because I am no full time racer. I need all the feedback I can get from my track time. Still at the mid to low end of my learning curve I do not need to start the track events with stickest tires just yet.

Wet traction is supurb with RE750. Did several wet laps and they did fantastic. Only down side is that the tires will give up traction drastically when it gets hit up towards end of 30 min track session. But it's ok, it is time to cool down your car anyways.

My next tire will be either Hoosier or Kumho race tires. But not until I do another 4-5 more track events.

Start slow with tires that are fully depended on your driving ability. Do not start with R compound tires. They are so sticky in fact it will give you greater margin of error and that is no good when you are fairly new to track events.

When I say new, if you haven't done more than 15-20 track events you are still a novice.

 

i am not looking to do any track events any time soon, but I do want a nice tire to have some fun with around town

 

anyway, I ended up with some bfg g-force sports, they need to order the fronts, so I only have them in the rear... $95 ea. and they grip quite well on the oily streets of las vegas....when I get the fronts ill let ya know how they are. looking prety good from here

 

SO2s are the best BTW.

 

i have the Hankook's on my teg and they stick real good. my prev. tire was azenis and i think they hold as good as those. thread wear is fine...i've had mine for about 6 months and they are still real thick.

Why did you not listen to me? Those tires are not half the tire the RS-2 is. Plus they do not even make them in the right size. If you got 225/50-16s in the back they are too narrow. The bridgstone SO-2s on the back say 225/50-16 but actually have the equivelent width of every other tires 245/45-16. You should only replace your rears with 225/50-16 if you are sticking to the ubber expensive SO-2s. If you go with any other tire you need to get 245/45-16s. Sorry I thought I made that clear in my post. Honestly you need to get the right size back cause it can upset the oversteer/understeer characteristics honda intended.

 

The recomended size inside the door pannel says 225-50-16, so I figured that it would be the safe way to go...I don't know who stocks the hancooks in las vegas

anyeway the bfg's seem to be extremely grippy in the rear, it is nearly impossible to oversteer the car. I amd anxious to see what happens when the fronts come in... Ill post when that happens

225/50/16 is not our rear tire size. i know it says it on the door panel but it is wrong! the correct size is 245/45/16 You are going to have grip issues when driving the car hard. it won't stick that well

Please get this corrected if you are going to be doing any spirited driving on the street. My buddy made a mistake like this and his car is totaled now. Sure the improper tires are not the only thing to blame but I am sure it did not help.

I can not stress how much better this car drives with true performance and properly sized tires.

^^I agree. If you need something that will still be good in rain though, your best bet is the SO-3.

I've heard lots of good things about these. If you are going with a tire other than the SO-2, please get the proper size.

The OEM SO-2 is a 225/55 in the rear, but in reality, it has the contact patch of a 245, so you need to get 245's for the rear, and the 205's will still be fine in the front.
