Tien SS Coilovers
For a nice streetable ride, Tein SS are wonderful. When you want, they are stiff enough to have fun with, or they can be soft enough to keep your girlfriend from being mad everytime she rides with you. I am actually selling mine for $750 + shipping (they are a year old now), so if you've got an eg/dc2 and you like that price, then hit me up. If you're looking for something thats pretty stiff for the purpose of track or autox alone, I would look into something stiffer than Tein SS though...
That's a good price for the Tein SS's. I would like to get a quality setup one day. My friend has the Tein Basics and the ride on them is great, so I can only imagine how much better the SS's would be. Another option to look into are the K-Sports. A great suspension for a lot cheaper.
Oh, then you'll love Tein SS's. They don't KILL you over bumps and the likes (believe me, i live in Kentucky), but yet they are still more than just something to lower your car with.
how does this setup compare to the famed GC/Koni combo? I've heard different opinions and I'm wondering what others think, especially if you have experience with both setups.

well, since you asked:
SS = **** compared to GC/Koni. in terms of performance, value, and build quality there's no real comparison.
I guess if you like the color green, the SS might be worth it, but otherwise the GC/Koni combo is pretty hard to beat. Also keep in mind that the GC/Koni combo can be as ride friendly or as stiff as you want it to be since you can get a wide range of custom eibach spring rates for no extra charge from GC.
plus konis are rebuildable stateside, have a lifetime warranty, and awesome customer service.

just wanted to clarify for a prospective new buyer.
and to add my experience: 4 years and 56000 miles of daily abuse, chicago winters (not anymore) and occasional tracking and the konis have taken it like a champ (400/450 spring rates too). Koni ROCKS!

Lets face it. Everyone's coilover setup will always be better than everyone else's...in EVERY debate. I don't have experience with the GC/koni setup, but i do know that if you only desire street use and still want a comfortable ride, you COULD go with Tein SS (they too are rebuildable). As far as build quality goes, I won't "pretend" like some and tell you that the SSs are better either. All i know is that i've had mine for about 30,000 miles, and they are still holding up great (snowy conditions through the winter as well). If hearsay is anything to go by, then you won't go wrong with the GC/Koni setup, and I can personally tell you that you won't be disappointed with the Tein SS setup...its a win win situation for you.

Ever heard of a shock dyno? Ever seen the SS on a shock dyno?
There's hearsay, then there's empirical evidence, then there's critical thinking/analysis of the facts. On paper, the SS is ****. In real life, it may be ok if you don't ask much from your suspension. On the track the SS is severely overmatched, unless you like understeer.
face it, the facts are: You can get a $800 suspension that underperforms but is comfortable on the street, or you can get an $800 suspension that will perform like a champ, is comfortable, and has a lifetime warranty.

The shock dyno comment is true, however, who from above was comparing based on shock dyno results? Also, the guy didn't ask for suspension for the track, he asked for good suspension for the street.
If I weren't planning on tracking my car, I would look in to a cheaper suspension setup than GC/Koni.. Unless you just want to spend (waste) money..
Try something like Lowering Springs or Sleeve coilovers with AGXs or Illuminas.. There are tons of options out there. You just need to decide for sure what you want out of your suspension, and how much you want to spend.

while the GC/koni combo is very trackable, it's also very streetable.
but hey i think i've said enough in defense of the setup. lowering springs and shocks aren't a bad option either. it all really depends on what you want out of the car, but when you think about it, the extra 200 bucks you spend on konis over KYB's is worth it in terms of quality, comfort, and versatility over the long term.

I was talking to a Tien dealer the other day and he told me privately that the SS Tiens suck, and he told me not to assume that they would even outlast a stock replacement Monroe shock. He said the high dollar tien stuff is good, but said to steer clear of the SS shocks.
