Default P&P head question

I obtained a p75 LS head that was ported and polished. the guy I got it from said the person who did the P&P was doing it for a boosted application. my question is I am going N/A and wanted to use this head. what problems will I run into if any?

cant recommend a nonvtec head with allmotor, for a few extra hunda bucks you can get atleast 20 hp. Good bang for the buck.

Why not...you can get ALMOST as much HP out of a built LS motor as a Vtec motor.

Stick it on with some big cams and high comp pistons in a larger size. You'll want to add nitrous just for the extra oomph, though. A 50 shot would put you in at least 13s with a built LS setup.

You have to check the Intake ports. If they are smooth it won't do any good. It needs to have some rough so the air/fuel mixture can atomize.

Not necessarily! Just b/c you have Vtec doesnt mean more power. If the LS head has good headwork done it can flow just as well as a Vtec head.

Big cams, high compression, and good bolt-ons to help bring the flow of air and you can have a badass motor.

With 170 whp @ 7400, I ran a 13.53 @ 105 with no headwork, horrible 60' time, and in a pig *** heavy car. I have had headwork now, so after I re-tune we will see what happens.

N2O is fun and can add a great deal of oomph. Make sure you tune it though if that is your route. 3 yrs ago I ran a 12.6 1/4 mile with a pretty much stock LS with just 403 cams, a B16 tranny, and a 75 shot wet.

that was true with carburetors. not so true with fuel injection. there is a certain RA (roughness average) that the top head porters like to leave in the intake and exhaust ports of the heads they port. this has more to do with boundary layer shear than anything else. just like a golfball goes farther with its dimples on it than it would go if it were smooth unless you are pushing the limits of the porting process there is not all that much to be gained. and unless you polish it with very fine sandpaper in the final step you have already left them rough enough. i have seen some cnc ported heads that cost a ton to have done that had the tooling marks left intact. there was just a tiny drag on your finger when you felt the port.

I dont know how to post pics on here but I have 4 of the with the #1 and #3 intake and exhaust ports. they are pretty smooth, there are a few ridges in them. I haven't had it bench flowed cause I havent found a decent shop here. I am definatly going to bump compression, maybe do CTR or ITR pistons, crower 403 or 404 cams, greddy header, and port match the intake or maybe go skunk2, I am also thinkin of goin nitrous. I dont really want to make crazy HP numbers as it is my daily driver. I just want to make it a bit faster and retain the reliability. thanks for all of your uinput and please keep it comming.
