96 Accord LX - Noisy Blower Motor
I can hear a ticking sound that is coming from the blower motor under the dash and it only makes the sound when the motor is running. It's almost like something is rubbing against the fan blades. Imagine taking a thin peice of paper and holding it against the blade of a moving house fan...that's what it sounds like.
Just wondering if this is common in these Accords or if there is something in there or something wrong with the motor. The car is so quiet otherwise...that's what makes it annoying.....buzzzzzzz.
Before I pull and install a new blower motor, just wondered if others heard much noise from their blower motors.
Thanks!

Yeah, I guess most people would just say crank up the radio!!, ha ha.
Thing is, I listen to a lot of jazz and it's annoying to try to listen to some great sound quality in music with this buzzing sound in the background.
The car would be nearly silent if it weren't for that.
My guess is that Honda just makes noisy blower motors...hopefully I'm wrong

It's fairly common for something to get sucked into the air intake and wind up stuck in the fan.
When the fan bushings go bad there is usually a 'squalling' noise every so often.

I tried to read through the archives to see if anyone had a good write up on how difficult it is to remove the blower motor, but I didn't find one that was very descriptive.
From the sound that its making, my guess is that there might be some garbage in there. I've heard a motor go bad bearing-wise so I don't think that's it.
If anyone's changed one out before, please let me know how it went.
Thanks!

I have the same problem in my 1994 accord. It has been like that for over 4 years. I am not too worried about it. Driving at highway speeds I cannot hear it anyways. Only when I come to a stop and it is on the low setting

i believe on ur car all u got to do is remove 3 screws and the connector and it should drop down ,,then remove whats in there sometimes small leaves go there or pieces of paper that was in ur glove box
Got out there today and pulled the blower motor. Everything was spotless inside, no signs of leaves or debris of any kind. Makes since I guess since this car has ALWAYS been garage kept. I ended up plugging the motor back in with it sitting outside of the dash and turned the fan on using the dash controls. Sure enough, the motor itself is making some kind of clicking sound as the wheel was spinning. I tried tapping lightly on it with a rubber mallet hoping it might move something around inside, but it just looks like the motor is noisy. Looks like I may just have to invest in a new motor to eliminate the noise. AutoZone sells a new replacement fan for $59.99. I may also just wait and hit the junk yard to see if I can pull one cheap. I'm afraid to know what a Honda OEM would sell for, if it's even available.
In order to remove the motor its best to pull off the passenger side kick panel and then pull the carpet back a bit. Once you do this, it's a lot easier to get to the very back screw that is holding the motor on. I used a 1/4" ratchet with an 8mm socket to get to it. After the three screws are out, the motor will just drop right down. Takes a little wiggling, but it comes out pretty easy.
Just thought I'd throw those in for grins

Broke down and spent $58 on a new blower motor from Oreilly's this past week. The install went well and the new motor is as quiet as a mouse.
The jazz is sounding good now
