Default MoTec Connection

How do you connect to the MoTec computer if your laptop only has USB. I've tried a USB to DB9 to Parallel convertor and it doesn't work. Has anyone had this problem???? My laptop has no COM ports and no Printer ports.

Call motec. I know they have a solution for that. Either they have the cable for adaption, or they can point you in the right direction. I am pretty sure we use the USB interface cable.

make sure you select the proper port in the motec software also or it wont know where to look for the ecu.

A PCMCIA card to serial will work if you/Motec unable to do it in s/w, but is cumbersome.

The M400/600/800 series ecu's ues a parallel port (big printer one), while the M4 and M48 use a serial port. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to your question though, call Motec and talk to Nate.

The M800 software is totally different. You're thinking of the M4/M48 software.

im using a pcmcia to parallel card. you can get one that works for sure from motec, or take your chances and get one cheaper from the computer store.

M4 and M48 ECUsBest Buys has a USB to Serial Adaptor made by I/O gear that works well with most laptops. There are other ones available but they do not work. So far I/O gear has the best one. I believe these go for around 20-30 bucks.

M-Hundreds and ADL
If you are looking to use the M hundreds meaning 400 600 or 800 also including ADL, you need to convert to the lastest ECU manager 2.3 and Dash Manager 3.2. You can download these new files from our Motec website.
We offer a USB to CAN adaptor for that.
Part# M UTC $266.00
Alternatively you can use a PCMCIA to Par Can adaptor.
Part # M PORT ADAPT $203.70
I would use the UTC because the construction of the adaptor is more robust.

ADL2 / SDL (Sports Dash)
These new dashes already works with USB 2.0.

Hope this answers your questions

just make sure it is specifically for PC use and not a PDA. lol...we have wasted alot of time during FC training sessions having the trainee run out to Best Buy because they had the wrong type converter. There are some that also hamper the communication rate between the unit and PC, i think nate has it rite with the IOGear piece, specifically PN# GUC 232a. That one is perfect for 9 pin to USB conversions detailed for the m4/48.
