Default v710 drag racing pressure...

first, let me start off by saying

okie, now onto my question. anyone know how low you can go with kumho v710 (225/50-15) pressures for a drag launch before they spin off the rim?

with the hoosiers (a3s04) i was unable to go lower then 25 psi before the tire got pissed off. the kumho has a much softer sidewall, so i was thinking less, possibly even 15psi. anyone have any useful info?

Most of the people in here that use those tires don't use them for drag racing. The people that do start them, don't go much lower than 23 because they build pressure so fast just like other race tires. But we are talking road racing, no drag stuff.

I drag raced on V700's once. They didn't seem to be very sticky. I started at 20 without rim-spinning issues. This was on a bone stock ITR, 205/50R15 (or was it 225/50? I can't remember now.)

If I remember, I switched to my street Pirelli PZeros and had no negative effect on times. This was back in 1999, so the details are a bit fuzzy.

Just a data point, your mileage may vary.

Oh man, I'm also going to the Honda Day event at Englishtown and was hoping you weren't going. Oh well, I'll see what I can do with my RR setup.

BTW: [cough] I heard the winners from previous years are not allowed to compete. [cough]

oooh, i remember hearing about how Chris won last year.....!

isn't it like an ironman type of event with an autox and drag race, combining scores for overall total to determine winner?

So you say they invented rules after you got there? Did you even HAVE street tires for your car? I know since I've been trailering my car, I don't bring the street tires to an autox, only the race tires on the car and the rain tires in the truck. If they required street tires, I'm sure glad I did not tow all the way down there. How did you do, assuming you actually had street tires to drive on?

He still won.

Regardless, pretty suck way to twist an events rules.

to say that would be a gross understatement.

first it was the dot tire rule. after we all tried to explain they are dot, and did not get anywhere, i luckily borrowed a friend's azenis for the event.
then perry (running the autox) was told, and i qoute "disqualify chris travis and all cars on race tires". i was, to be honest, ******* pissed. i calmed down enough to take ftd on my first run (there was an ep car, fm car, and a few other fast guys there earlier as well).
well, turns out it was a misunderstanding. they thought i still had the 710's on the car. props to javier (and raceway park officials) to fixing the mistake. so, it all worked out in the end. for next year i hope the rules are a little more clear cut. i still need some more motor for the drag end though.....

13.9@99 it was very very hot, so i heard all the drag guys saying they were off a good 3/10's. sounds about right, as i have run 13.6@101 on streets, and 13.2@104 on slicks.
